O'Neill hopes the former Birmingham and Crystal Palace marksman does not use that spot-kick nightmare to suddenly find his goalscoring boots again against Villa.

"His recent run without a goal could be pretty bad news for us," said O'Neill, whose side are seeking a third-straight home win.

"Johnson is a good player who causes you enough problems during the course of the game without getting on the end of things. He did that at Goodison Park against us last season about five times.

"I've known about him since his youth team days at Birmingham City when they played Leicester City and I was the manager there.

"He was outstanding back then and has done really well for himself.

"I must admit that I didn't realise he had gone so long without a goal.

"We all know that strikers thrive on goals and if they go three or four games without scoring you know that in their minds they are thinking that run could be extended.

"That is why scoring boosts their confidence and the next thing is they know that they can also score from the next opportunity three minutes after getting a goal."

What are the chances lads, reckon he's going to set these penalty misses straight at Villa Park?

I think when he finally gets off the mark, the floodgates will open. He's got too much quality and works too hard not to start firing 'em in again. In addition, I think having Yakubu with him will help.

If he was getting the chances but being denied due to a combination of good goalkeeping and bad luck yeah i'd expect him to break his duck sooner rather than later, but thats not the case is it.
Its been said numerous times why AJ hasn't been scoring and until those problems are addressed not much is gonna change.

Do we need to put 5 in the middle to benefit aj if so what do we do with the yak i,m glad i,m not the gaffer.
I believe if we stick with aj he will come good it has been said if you work hard you get lucky and aj works hard so hopefully his luck will turn on sunday

It's not all and simple about AJ alone, we need to get rid of our [Poor language removed] midfield combination. As long as we play neville and carsley together, I will hold moyes responsible for our failure to get results.

One more thing to add, hibbert as well.

away from home, my ideal 11 is

............howard
neville yobo lescott baines
arteta jagielka gravs osman
..............cahill
............johnson

lets get that difficult to score against mentality and formation back.

Im scared of the exact opposite, johnson having no confidence (or a should say even less than his confidence now) and not scoring at all. It is more likely, he doesnt shoot at all, which could be a lack of confidence, so what will happen to him after this??

We really need Cahill back desperately, Johnson was scoring over and over when Cahill was in the side and had his drought when Cahill was gone. Maybe Cahill behind him was a better good combination than people might have thought although it was 4-5-1.

Yakubu is gash*

* This may have been covered elsewhere.
Sadly it looks like Everton are where strikers come to die First Beattie comes as a goal scorer flops moves on starts scoring AJ also scoring when he arrived now zilch Yak is he really better than Victor?
