Niasse against Sporting - he looks decent enough, excellent goal, good assist.

I'm hanging on to the hope he just needs a good pre-season and a manager who knows what he is doing.

You're impressed with that? He fluffed it big time, got a lucky bounce and his team mate tucked it away!

I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt on Saturday, as it's very easy to write someone off. What I can say is that he runs about a fair bit more than a lot of our players, which unfortunately where we are at sticks out like a saw thumb. I think that will be the best he can be for us really, a lad who can run himself into the ground. Bringing him on against West Ham looks one of the most bizarre decisions in recent times, I have to say.
He definitely runs around, but a lot of it seems to be just chasing people in innocuous situations. In the Bournemouth game it took him 15 minutes to touch the ball, so he wasn't even looking to get on the ball and show what he could do, or even to make himself a target for others to play off like Stracqualursi used to do. Unfortunately, the more I see of him, the worse the whole thing looks.

I genuinely believe this is when Martinez lost the players if any were unsure it confirmed there reservations. Chelsea & 2nd half at Wembley we haven't shown any effort or application since.

In fact we should all be happy we signed niasse he could of signed andros Townsend instead & we may have finished 8th and put up a better fight at Wembley still lost & have to endure another season of Martinez. Although to be fair I thjnk the day moshiri bought in he was out

Farm him out on loan next season to a championship team...And hopefully manufacture a move for him to an Icelandic club.

Look at the standard of the defending though. It's god awful.

It's not that though.

It's not that he's just had a bad patch; it's that he looks actually awful at football.

For example, as bad as McGeady is, he can still somewhat play football, so you can't accuse him of not being a footballer.

With Niasse? Honestly I've not seen much to convince me he actually is one.

So I don't think the reaction to Niasse is dumb at all - it's one of genuine, understandable confusion at how we can pay close to £14m on someone who looks like a pub player could run rings around. You can say he needs a pre-season etc. and I did agree with that at first, but he's been four months now, has had a bit of game time, and I don't think you need a pre-season to understand the basics of football. None of what we've seen thus far can be put down to just being rusty; it really does look like he doesn't know how to play football, not that he's rusty or just inconsistent at it.

Well I personally do think the reaction is dumb.

He may well still turn out to be rubbish, or average or injury prone or just ok or decent or great. I have no idea.

I´ve no problem with people just pointing out that he isn´t playing well or looks way off the pace or out of his league, so long as it at least mentions he is brand new to the league. Theres a long list of footballers who start crap/badly/slowly and go on to settle.

The problem is the multitude of comments damning him completely.

It is, IMO, dumb.

If it was just Niasse it would be different by the way. If the reaction to most new signings was patient and forgiving, and then everybody was flipping out over this particular signing then you´d say fair enough.

But reactions like this happen all the time at all clubs.

One of the key areas for me in seeing whether a player understands the game is to watch their movement off the ball.

Watch Niasse when he's running into the box anticipating a cross from the wings - runs in a dead straight line parallel to the touch line - no diagonal movement or change of direction . Even if he had the necessary skills he'd be the easiest forward in the world to mark.

Seemed like a decent fellow on the EiTC video, and I hear the players don't dislike him, but just not at the standard required.

The club is in a mess right now though Esk. Performance levels are very much tied to the psychology of the players and I can´t imagine he is exactly enjoying his move so far.

The toxic fans that @orly mentions don´t really help either ;)

Proper Bantz if we'd signed another winger in Jan. Andros could have sat next to Kev, Del, Pienaar and Lennon on the bench and watched Clev and Kone do the business.
