There was another thread about this.

The film was made a few years ago for about $9k by a computer FX artisit and it did the festivals, getting good internet buzz, but no stuido picked it up. Apparantly Spielberg got a copy, loved it, told Dreamworks to buy it. Dreamworks bought it, told the director to re-shoot the ending and they released it on a limited run but had the marketting gimmick of "demand it locally". People did, now its got a wider release.

While it does look like Most Haunted: The Movie, sometimes the simple things are the best. And reviews are basically saying its Blair Witch Project but scary.

Looking forward to it, but it has to top the spanish film REC, that used that handheld style, to scare moi. I do sense that its going to be full of silence-LOUD NOISE type stuff.

Can't say i enjoyed or was scared by REC.

Also it seems that the lower budget horror films are scarier than the Blockbusters.

Because they've got to be a bit more creative and use simpler techniques than big budget flicks. With horror or scares the best way is to make it feel real - which is why these camcorder films (which have been done to death since 1999) have a lasting effect on people because it seems real. The lower the budget the more the filmmakers spend time on creating build ups and take risks, make it feel more dangerous.

Its not to say the bigger budget films cant, they can do. But more times than not you always feel "safe" watching a glossy scare movie.

I loved REC. Saw it over a year ago on a festival copy - couldnt hardly watch the last 20minutes in that room. You know somethings in there with them but they dont know....argh makes me scared just thinking about it hehehe. REC 2 is out soon - early positive buzz is saying its like Aliens to REC's Alien.

The Unborn is a good example of that. Can't believe i paid £8 to watch that crap.

Maybe I need to give REC another watch, I just feel that once you've watched one Zombie/Infection film, you've seen them all.

I loved REC too but I think that the best way to watch it is to go into it totally uninformed.

If you have been told anything about it, it's ruined. Even so much as 'Watch this film it's really scary'.

I just got told, 'Watch this spanish film, it's really interesting....'

When a film gets the big hype up then it is invariably (through no fault of it's own) a disappointment.

Going watching that Colin at the cinema in 2 weeks, with an intro from the director. I haven't read anything on it other than the basic premise, so I'm not expecting too much.

As the delightful Sophie Ellis Bextor told me many years ago 'A pessimist is never disappointed'

I think the story behind Colin ie how it was made, will be far better than the film mate hehehe

No doubt. I probably wouldn't bother if Marc Price wasn't there. Will be really interesting hearing how he shot it, how the gore effects were achieved with household items (if he says ketchup I'm walking) etc.

Plus, I get to stay out after and get leathered, without having to cook up some ridiculous story to the mrs.

Hahaha. He'll probably say that you know. Someone who posts on another film site I go on knows the feller. He makes films himself (go to HMV and find Killer, Killer, Trashouse etc, he made them) and told me he just went to Cannes for a laugh and see what happens with his film he made on the weekends.

Low and behold he sold it and got it distributed. So he's just as chuffed and surprised as anyone else, so him saying "it was ketchup" will just add to the "it was made for £45" charm (that £45 was just a figure out of the air because he didnt have a budget and did it on the weekends over months)
