It’s that time of the season again, where leagues get extra competitive with the final games in sight, so for this thread, with it being the penultimate weekend in the Football League, National League and lower leagues in Scotland, this is where things stand for Promotion and Relegation
Championship
Burnley and Sheffield United are already up, Luton and Middlesbrough have two of the play off spots but there’s an 8 team fight for the other spots with 4 points separating Coventry in 5th down to Swansea in 12th. Preston (10th) and Blackburn (8th) have the tougher games against Sheffield United and Luton respectively with West Brom (9th) facing Norwich (11th) in the late game tomorrow
At the other end Wigan will be relegated to League One if they lose at fellow strugglers Reading, Blackpool as it stands will also be down due to inferior goal difference as they are trailing 2-1 to play off contenders Millwall. A draw in the Reading/Wigan game would relegate both if Huddersfield win at Cardiff on Sunday
League One
Plymouth and Ipswich are already promoted, the former will win the title with a win over Burton if the latter lose at home to Exeter, both win, draw or lose and the fight goes to the last day
Derby and Bolton will clinch playoff spots if they beat Portsmouth and Fleetwood respectively and Peterborough fail to beat Bristol Rovers, like the title race if all 3 have matching results then the final day decides things
The relegation fight sees 5 teams fighting to avoid 3 spots and only 4 points separating them, Oxford should be safe as they face relegated Forest Green leaving 4 from MK Dons, Morecambe, Accrington and Cambridge, the latter will be down if the Dons take a point from playoff bound Barnsley and they lose the big basement battle with Accrington
League Two
Leyton Orient are already Champions, Northampton are all but up and need just a point at home to playoff contenders Bradford, Stevenage will clinch promotion with a point against Grimsby if Stockport fail to beat Orient, defeat and a County win would see both guarantee playoffs as a minimum with the promotion fight going to the final day. Carlisle, Salford and Mansfield are all still in with a shot of the playoffs
The relegation issue was sorted last weekend with both Rochdale and Hartlepool dropping to the National League
