It’s that time of the season again, where leagues get extra competitive with the final games in sight, so for this thread, with it being the penultimate weekend in the Football League, National League and lower leagues in Scotland, this is where things stand for Promotion and Relegation

Championship

Burnley and Sheffield United are already up, Luton and Middlesbrough have two of the play off spots but there’s an 8 team fight for the other spots with 4 points separating Coventry in 5th down to Swansea in 12th. Preston (10th) and Blackburn (8th) have the tougher games against Sheffield United and Luton respectively with West Brom (9th) facing Norwich (11th) in the late game tomorrow

At the other end Wigan will be relegated to League One if they lose at fellow strugglers Reading, Blackpool as it stands will also be down due to inferior goal difference as they are trailing 2-1 to play off contenders Millwall. A draw in the Reading/Wigan game would relegate both if Huddersfield win at Cardiff on Sunday

League One

Plymouth and Ipswich are already promoted, the former will win the title with a win over Burton if the latter lose at home to Exeter, both win, draw or lose and the fight goes to the last day

Derby and Bolton will clinch playoff spots if they beat Portsmouth and Fleetwood respectively and Peterborough fail to beat Bristol Rovers, like the title race if all 3 have matching results then the final day decides things

The relegation fight sees 5 teams fighting to avoid 3 spots and only 4 points separating them, Oxford should be safe as they face relegated Forest Green leaving 4 from MK Dons, Morecambe, Accrington and Cambridge, the latter will be down if the Dons take a point from playoff bound Barnsley and they lose the big basement battle with Accrington

League Two

Leyton Orient are already Champions, Northampton are all but up and need just a point at home to playoff contenders Bradford, Stevenage will clinch promotion with a point against Grimsby if Stockport fail to beat Orient, defeat and a County win would see both guarantee playoffs as a minimum with the promotion fight going to the final day. Carlisle, Salford and Mansfield are all still in with a shot of the playoffs

The relegation issue was sorted last weekend with both Rochdale and Hartlepool dropping to the National League

National League

Wrexham were confirmed as record smashing Champions last week so the main issues are who joins Notts County in the playoffs. Chesterfield will join County in the semi finals if they avoid defeat to relegated Maidstone and Woking fail to beat Solihull, defeat and Woking can pip them with a win

Boreham Wood only need a point at home to relegated Yeovil regardless of what Southend do against Wealdstone, a defeat would see Southend sneak in with a win due to their better goals scored

Torquay need a miracle to avoid dropping to NL South as they host the champions needing an 8 goal swing in their favour between their game and Maidenhead’s game at Gateshead

National League North

Fylde travel to Bradford PA needing a win to be crowned champions, King’s Lynn can steal the title if Fylde lose and they beat Curzon Ashton, one of 9 teams that can still make the playoffs

Blyth host Hereford needing a win and a Kettering defeat against another PO contender in Kidderminster in order to stay up, Kettering only have to match Blyth’s result to stay up

National League South

Ebbsfleet are already champions and Dartford have one of the semi final spots, Oxford City can take the other if they match Chelmsford’s result at home to Taunton when they go to Bath. St Albans will take the last play off spot even in defeat at home to Farnborough as long as there isn’t a big goal difference swing to Havant and Waterlooville in their game with Welling

Concord’s brave fight to stay up ended on Thursday in defeat to Havant, Weymouth can stay up if they beat Dover and Dulwich Hamlet lose at home to Chippenham, if both win Dover would go down instead due to inferior GD on both

Scottish Championship

Dundee missed the chance to put one hand on the title after drawing 0-0 with Cove Rangers, Queen’s Park have the chance to go top with one game left if they can beat playoff chasing Morton

Cove’s point leaves them within 2 of safety but they will be confirmed bottom 2 with Hamilton if Arbroath beat Partick Thistle, if they lose it goes to the final games next Friday

Scottish League One

Dunfermline are already champions and Peterhead and Clyde will be the bottom two, Peterhead will be relegated if they lose at Kelty Hearts regardless of what Clyde do at Dunfermline, a win and Clyde defeat will send the chase to the final day

Alloa need only a point at Montrose to clinch a playoff place due to Edinburgh not being in action and only having one game left

Scottish League Two

Sterling Albion are already champions, East Fife can secure the final playoff place with a win over Albion Rovers and Forfar (away to Sterling) and Stenhousemuir (away to Stranraer) fail to win

Albion have to win that game or they will be resigned to the relegation playoff against Brechin or Spartans, provided Elgin beat Dumbarton, if they match each others results, it goes to the final day

I thought the only football that mattered was what sky told us about their easy selling big brands. Where are these other teams you talk of?

Great summary though. Ta.

So after today’s games this is how it looks

Championship

Coventry took a big step to clinching a playoff spot after a 2-0 win over Birmingham, a point in their final game will do, Sunderland and West Brom still have outside shots and Blackburn can go into the final day in the PO positions if they beat Luton on Monday

Wigan joined Blackpool in going down to L1 after their 1-1 draw with Reading, Huddersfield need 4 points from their games with Cardiff and Sheff Utd to render the game with Reading on the final day a dead rubber

League One

Plymouth and Ipswich go into a final day shootout for the title after rubber stamping their promotions today, the former only need to match the latter’s result to win, a draw would win it for Ipswich if Plymouth lose because of their massive GD

Bolton sealed a playoff spot with a win over Fleetwood leaving Derby and Peterborough to fight it out for the last spot

Accrington are all but down owing to their poor GD after losing to Cambridge who will now battle with Morecambe and MK Dons for the last spot

League Two

Stevenage are promoted to L1 after beating Grimsby, Northampton or Stockport will join them and Leyton Orient on the final day

Bradford will clinch the last playoff spot with a point or better in the game in hand vs Crewe on Wednesday

National League/North/South

Chesterfield join Notts County in the PO semi finals, Boreham Wood, Bromley, Barnet and Woking face off in the QF. Torquay took the final relegation spot

Fylde won the North title, King’s Lynn and Chester go to the Semis, Brackley, Alfreton, Kidderminster and Gloucester are the QFs. Blyth and Farsley survive the drop with Kettering dropping along with Leamington, Bradford PA and Telford

Oxford City beat out Worthing to the South semi final spot and join Dartford there, Worthing, Chelmsford, St Albans and Braintree are the QFs. Weymouth and Dover stay up with Dulwich Hamlet going down with Concord, Cheshunt and Hungerford

Scottish Championship

Queen’s Park missed the chance to go into the final day as leaders after losing at Morton. Arbroath could still go into the relegation playoff after missing a chance to seal survival with defeat to Partick Thistle

Scottish League One

Alloa sealed the final playoff spot with a win over Montrose, Peterhead are relegated after losing at Kelty

Scottish League Two

East Fife take the last playoff spot with a win over Albion coupled with Forfar losing at Stirling. Albion could still stay up due to having a better GD than Bonnyrigg but would have to beat Stirling and hope Bonnyrigg lose

Final weekend in the English and Scottish lower leagues with plenty still at stake

Championship

The relegation picture was sorted last night as Huddersfield beat Sheffield United to secure survival and relegate Reading to League One. Monday’s final day will now solely focus on who joins Luton and Middlesbrough in the playoffs

Coventry need just a point against Boro to seal their place and a semi final with the same opposition, Millwall need to beat Blackburn who could steal in with a win and a goal swing over other games, West Brom and Sunderland could also sneak through with wins over Swansea and Preston respectively and results at the Den and the Riverside going their way

League One

Plymouth will be crowned champions if they better or equal Ipswich’s result at Fleetwood when they go to Port Vale, Ipswich need either to win and hope Plymouth lose but a draw could also do if the latter happens because of their better GD

Derby need to better or equal Peterborough’s result at Barnsley when they go to Sheffield Wednesday, a defeat and a Posh win would see the latter steal the final spot

Cambridge have the best chance of the 3 relegation candidates of staying up as they host relegated Forest Green knowing a win and favourable results in the MK Dons and Morecambe games would keep them up and relegate one of the two, same scenario applies for both

League Two

Northampton need to better or equal Stockport’s result at home to relegated Hartlepool when they go to Tranmere, Stockport will clinch a second successive promotion if they win and Rovers do them a favour

Bradford need a point at home to champions Leyton Orient regardless of what Mansfield do at Colchester in order to take the final playoff spot, defeat and Mansfield can sneak in with a win and a 4 goal swing

Scottish Premiership

Celtic will win the title with victory at Hearts on Sunday regardless of what Rangers do at home to Aberdeen

Scottish Championship

It’s a winner takes all showdown tonight as Queen’s Park meet Dundee, the victor goes up to the Premiership as champions, though a draw would also do for Dundee

Ayr and Inverness meet to decide the final playoff place with both looking over their shoulders at Morton who could sneak in if there is a draw and they beat Cove

Cove need the win and hope Hamilton beat Arbroath in order to stay up, a defeat and a Hamilton win would see them finish bottom and go down to League One, a point keeps Arbroath up due to better goal difference

League One

Nothing to play for on the final day other than positioning for Airdrieonians and Alloa

League Two

Bonnyrigg Rose need a point against Elgin to stay up, regardless of what Albion do against champions Stirling, a win for Albion and a Bonnyrigg defeat sends the latter to the relegation playoff because Albion have a better goal difference

If Millwall beat Blackburn at home they will be in the playoffs.

I will laugh my socks off if they get promoted to the Premier League. Most supporters of the sanitised and gentrified Premier League teams would need therapy afterwards for PMSD.

Post Millwall Stress Disorder.

I'm more intrigued at the prospect of Luton with that ground of theirs, can you imagine it in the PL.
