Jesus, Dave.

How about er... Everton's last captain?

There's one thing you could say about Neville: he was very passionate about this club. He'd have batted away any questions about Stones quick smart with an answer like: 'well yeah, he's got a big future ahead of him. But he can win things at this club too. That's what we're building towards and John knows that'.

They'd have been Neville's words.

Jagielka on the other hand: "Lescott went to City and got trophies...there's an argument whether John should stay here or move on".

FFS, he's the captain of this club and he's practically using Lescott's medal winning experience to frame Stones' decision. How can that be right?

Really though?

Neville was Moyes right hand man in tempering the expectation of fans, and enforcing the notion that we were punching above our weight.

Look at the reaction here from Neville regarding what City were doing regarding Lescott and compare his words with Jagielka's mealy-mouthed defeatist BS.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...t-billionaire-clubs-Joleon-Lescott-chase.html

"The club have turned down two offers and the manager is not prepared to sell Lescott. Let's move on. Will City get the message? The way they are going about their business, I don't think they will. There are ways and means of doing things - and Everton do it the right way.

'It's not a nice situation for any player to be in when there is lots of speculation, but Joleon has remained tight to the group.'"

Jags has said pretty much the same thing above.

Can't stand Phil 'tenth is a massive achievement' Neville.

All things considered he was a good captain for a few seasons but he never fully understood what it meant to play for this club.

I much prefer Jags over the jarg highlighted, mancunian brown nose.

I always reference this with regards to Neville, but I think it backs up what you're saying. In a BBC interview after he retired, he said that he wishes Evertonians would stop thinking "let's just beat Liverpool or let's just finish above Liverpool". It showed me that he knew nothing about the derby, I can accept a loss to Liverpool, but I can't accept the standard sh*thouse performances that we've so often put in against them over the last 10 years or so. And for a player who was club captain for like 8 years not to recognise that, was beyond belief IMO.
