Nebbiolo

Valuation: £108 million
Speaking to my mum before on the phone, and she broke the news to me that the BEST pie/pastie shop in the UK, Pimblett's of St. Helens, has gone out of business. Assuming she's not confused, I'm shocked. I know a lot of you talk about the [Poor language removed] chains like Sayer's and Gregg's, but Pimblett's was the KING of pastry food. I'm shocked. A Pimblett's pastie had to be the ultimate 1970s comfort food. A sad day. :(

Its not looking good anywhere right now. I'm scared to put the [Poor language removed] telly on. Every day theres somewhere going to the wall. Scarey.

Same here as well, Ray. I don't think we've been hit as badly as you lot, though. Still, a number of small banks have gone to the wall which is a very worrying sign.

Barclays bank gave notice to 2000 y'day and another 2000 today. Ok theyre a biggy with a huge workforce but were are these people gonna find another job? For most of them banking is all they know. I dont want to sound like I'm against foreign workers but we should look after our own first and I think its time most of these were sent home now. There is some work here but a lot of lazy English workers wont do the kind of jobs thats on offer. They should be made to do it or stop benefits to those who refuse. [Poor language removed] I'm sounding like a politician here. I'll shut up shall I?

Show me some of these jobs that you say are on offer, because ive been looking for 7months and applied for 100s of jobs, but there is always about 3,000 people going for each job and most of them ive seen didnt speak a word of English.

Thats because its foreigners thats gettin the work mate. Theres over a hundred in our place. If they were sent back home they'd have to employ British workers. The reason they got them jobs was because Brits wouldnt do them in the first place. Also it depends what type of work your looking for.

pimbletts was one of the few things st helens had going for it.

shame. If they cant sell pies in wooly back land where can they sell them?

I don't eat meat now but remember their steak pies fondly. The pastry would melt in your mouth, and the filling was ample, and not purchased from a dog food retailer. The pasties were excellent as well. Flaky, velvety pastry encasing succulent meat and potatoes. Oh yeah, and the meat pies were heavenly. I'm back on the meat tomorrow! :D
