Here's some sort of TL;DR of that link above.
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has vowed he will not quit Spain, despite coming under fire from fans in recent matches, but says he will still wish the worst to fierce rivals Real Madrid.

The Catalan defender was booed in Spain's 2-0 win over Slovakia last Saturday and international team-mate Sergio Ramos told reporters earlier this week that his remarks on Madrid made back in June "do not help him".

Pique mocked Madrid during Barca's treble celebrations as he made reference to Cristiano Ronaldo's 30th birthday party in February, which took place just hours after Real had lost 4-0 to Atletico - and rumours suggested on Thursday that he may step down from Spain duty altogether following the boos.

But at a specially arranged press conference to discuss his situation, the 28-year-old said: "Quitting the national team is the last thing I would do. That would be giving in to those who whistle for the wrong reasons."

Even though majority comments towards him nowdays are negative, I am completely on his side. He isn't lying, he hates Real Madrid from bottom of his heart and it will just stay that way, no need to be sorry, polite, whatsoever. He's still giving his best on the pitch and I really can't see a single reason why should anyone, bar fans of Madrid club, be mad at him at any point. Football world really miss those type of players today, everything in football is becoming "too nice", on the pitch and out of it, I really miss the passion players used to have before (still fairly young, but talking about 2000-2007 period, or something close to that).

Here is his press conference from today, by the way.

Maybe the fact that he has to play with Madrid players, the rest of Spain aren't Catalan declaring independence from Madrid, the majority are Castellano, Madrid is the capital of Spain, etc might offend a fair few people to be fair.

I guess what's interesting here is how open and honest he is. This is pretty unusual in the modern age which is understandable given the media/fan reaction. So, I respect him for being so up front.

Never really understood how you're supposed to play friends with people you'll happily kick lumps out of twice a season

And I can never understand how supporters of major clubs who hate the likes of Gerard, Terry or Ashley Cole and verbally abuse them every time they play their team can go from their default position to loving them when they play for England.

Supporting the national team is definitely best left to supporters of lower division clubs :)

Club football and International football are separate entities. Most people can differentiate and support their National Team, whoever plays for them.

It's really not that difficult. I can't stand this modern concept of hating on the National Team because the press over hype them and their clubs over pay them. None of which effects any of us in any way shape or form.

I still support England because I'm English, I don't get the hate.

Thing in Spain is though it's very divided regionally as a country. Even when they won the World Cup, the Catalans were fairly indifferent about it. The Basques are the same, etc

Swings and roundabouts though isn't it. Didn't mind the Catalans helping them win the World Cup did they, I'm sure all Spain was proud.. Fans are in a state of unrest because the National Team has had it's cycle of success so modern fans are bitter. It's all BS.

*not even sure that makes any sense
