Platini predicts financial meltdown - FourFourTwo

It's not a matter of if it's when. Outrageous salaries and transfer fees just can't go on. Eventually either catastrophy happens with numerous teams doing a Leeds that are on a rocky ledge or a more normal environment takes hold and the bidding for players comes to a halt. I beliee this makes the groundwork and the forethought of our Academy producing the Hibbo's,Rodwellsand dare I say it the Rooneys of the world even more important. Teams like Arsenal could implode very quickly. What everyones thoughts?

Not a great fan of Platini nor any other of the clowns that work for UEFA. Platini acts powerless to do anyting about the current situation developing in the game, yet he seems to be doing nothing to restructure the wrongly named UEFA Champions League. He goes on about finances being outrageous, yet fails to help club sides from Albania, Cypus etc etc gain further revenue.

I expect some type of correction to occur. Not necessarily to the biggest teams, since they seem to be moving primarily into the global entertainment business where a lot of money exists, but more to the clubs below that standard that are paying players idiotic amounts (Spurs, Newcastle, West Ham etc, etc).

Platini also wants the UEFA Cup to be renamed the Europa Cup or something like that, in the next few years. God knows what the format that will entail but you can bet your life it will benefit Champions League dropouts far more favourably. :@

I bet Platini has a composte heap!

He has a point though something will give, the Prem has been unlucky in the sense just as realism has began to creep back into the market a City or Chelsea come along!

Droping out of the Prem has become a death sentence.

"Platini told lawmakers that under his proposals clubs "would not be allowed to spend any more than 50 to 60 percent of revenues" on wages and buying players."

And they would spend the remaining 40-50 percent on...what exactly? OK, there's a little youth investment and stuff, but basically, he's suggesting enforcing a 40% profit margin on all clubs. And where is that money going to go? Into the pockets of the owners, presumably - there's nowhere else for it to go.

All this really does is redistribute profits away from the players and towards owners.

Realistically, it won't happen for many reasons, including

(a) It's highly questionable whether it's legal under EU law;
(b) There are too many major clubs who would oppose it, like Chelsea and Man City;
(c) It's just so clearly open to abuse. For example, teams could pay their players in non-cash (e.g. share options, like Arsenal used to), or use complex corporate structures to move turnover and/or profits between companies to boost their wage cap.

With respect TB , this man , considering his gifts as a player , has absolutely none in a managerial capacity . It appears he only opens his mouth now , just long enough to put both his feet into it .
Shobgite . Bitter knabsob , whom didnt mind chasing the Lucre when it was the Italian league , ( with , incidentally , its inherent corruption . ), but gets a cob-on when English hold sway .

Merde !! as he might say . Gobbus Shiticus .
