Postponment of Premier League fixtures due to the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

“The decision was reached on Friday, the morning after fans of League of Ireland Premier Division side Shamrock Rovers were heard singing vile chants about the Queen during their Europa Conference League draw with Swedish outfit Djurgardens. The minute’s silence held before the second half of Hearts’ clash with Istanbul Basaksehir also had to be cut short after supporters jeered and one fan was heard shouting an expletive-laden message about Her Majesty.”

No doubt the vast majority of fans would show a bit of class and remain quiet, but also no doubt various cretins would scream abuse, and this wouldn’t happen at other sports. I think it’s really unfair to those supporters who would have liked to show a bit of respect for our longest serving Monarch, but unfortunately there will always be those who just cannot be trusted and would ruin it for the rest. Just read some of the comments on this subject here and in the CA and it becomes self evident... A great shame but there we are………
Sounds quite thought police-y. Like we all have to like them. I wouldn't boo, but I have no respect for them

You would think the Irish would love the Queen! The British crown has brought a lot of joy to Ireland over the years.
thought the same with that story, but I do agree that if they're worried that would happen here and further tarnish the (deserved) poor image football has with the general non-fan public then it was probably the right thing to do.

I am deeply uncomfortable that there appears to be an acceptable thought/mob mentality element to all this (in general, not pointing that at anyone on here)- that people are entitled to their opinions in general but some such as the Royals are untouchable and therefore there mustn't be any dissenting opinions.

but why the bile towards a 96-year old woman who devoted more than 70 years to a uniquely difficult job?
I’m more bothered about Betty down the road who worked for the same company for over 50 years and is finding it really difficult to keep up with her utility bills not a woman who’s had whatever she’s wanted from the minute she was born trotting round on pony’s from a young age on their huge grounds to breeding top thoroughbred racehorses oh poor Liz had it tough.
I've never stopped to think that there are people out there, living in the same country as me, that actively dislike the Queen, as an individual, to the point that they'd openly grumble about a football match being postponed as a mark of respect for her passing away.
I don’t dislike the queen or royal family but then again I don’t like or particularly care for them either. They could of called off the Fridays games as a mark of respect not change the whole fixture list it’s a disgrace that travelling fans whether home or away fans have been left out of pocket by travel or accommodation plans or even the re arranged fixture they can’t attend. I work all week and look forward to the football just went to turn the tele on then remembered it’s off and the tele will be filled with the same stuff repeatedly for the next week or so ?. So their is also people who don’t dislike the queen who live in the same country as you who don’t want to see a disruption to their busy and tough life and the one joy they maybe get at the end of every week stopped because someone’s Mum, Nan all be it sad and it’s the queen has passed away.

I do think the National leagues bowed to pride more than anything, god forbid they have their reps tarnished by the odd divvy booing any tributes

It would have made a bit more sense if they’d merely postponed the London based games for policing reasons which would have included our game anyway as well as the following

SATURDAY

Fulham v Chelsea - PL
Charlton v Exeter - L1
Chelsea U21 v Liverpool U21 - PL2
West Ham U21 v Tottenham U21 - PL2
Tottenham v Man Utd - WSL

SUNDAY

West Ham v Newcastle - PL
Crystal Palace v Man Utd - PL
Fulham U21 v Arsenal U21 - PL2
Chelsea v West Ham - WSL
London City Lionesses v Bristol City - Womens Championship

If funeral is Monday 19th, I think London games will be off next week
