No not me, I was chosen many moons ago.

A poster on a baseball forum is debating between Liverpool (seriously) or Everton. Here is is post and I figured the diehards here could give a much better response than I ever could.

I have another request mainly for the Evertonians. At least for me, one of the great things about following a team is developing a hatred for rival teams. (The Mets, the Jets, the Knicks, FSU, etc.) So, why should I hate Liverpool? To me, they seem like the least objectionable of the Big 4 teams. Man U and Chelsea would really be like rooting for the Yankees, and Arsenal seems like the bandwagon pick, something I'd like to avoid. However, I need to find more reasons to dislike Liverpool.

I think I've narrowed my choices between Liverpool and Everton, and I can't seem to find enough bad stuff about Liverpool. Watching clips of their 2004 Champions League run and Steven Gerard gives me enough to like.

I must admit, I've felt like that as well for a long time but lately I'm starting to dislike Liverpool.

I'd recommend he speaks to some Liverpool fans.

(That ought to be enough; 'Kopites are Gobshites' is no mere cliche).

Just say this. Liverpool is our [Poor language removed] love-child who has made a deal with the devil in return for success. They were created when we moved before the turn of the 20th century and even tried to keep the name Everton.

Add to the Heysel incident, the cheating reinstatement into the CL in '04, a long list of annoying players and managers.

That is just a quickie. I could easily write a 5,000 word college level paper on why I hate them.

We are chosen, we do not choose.

ALL of the top four clubs are the bandwagon, no passion there mate!

My two best mates support man utd and liverpool (respectively) and they lack so much passion for the game because they expect to win every year and when they don't they aren't gutted or sad, they aren't bothered.

The way I see it, if a bloke wants to support a proper club then they have three choices as far as the PL goes.
South, midlands, North.

Spurs - Villa - Everton

And when you know your history you will know there is only one choice.

'remember lads, one Evertonian is worth ten Liverpudlians, thats how i feel about this club, it's the biggest and the best'

Was half sleepy and copy and pasted, I could go check but I know You're right ;)

There are a lot of things Liverpool stands for that won't benefit the world of football as a whole, but benefit the rich.

They are a part of the G-14 a group constructed by the top teams one year that solely work to try and make sure they get more and more money from competitions like CL so they can firmly entrench themselves in the top of the local leagues. They've even threatened to create their own league if the national and international organizations doesn't bow to them.

They want to change the rules so it benefits them, they failed to qualify for the CL in 2004 when we took the 4:th spot. First thing they did? Demand that they would be given our spot since they became defending champions and we finished a measly 4:th and wouldn't stand a chance in the CL. What happened in the end? They got a free slot into the first qualification stage so they could participate. All the while clamouring that it was unfair that we were there.

They have one policy if something doesn't work. Buy foreign players for a lot of cash to silence the critics. Add to that the fact that they are the love of the local council and are consistently favorized by them.... that alone is enough for a fan who loves fair play to stay away from Liverpool and their mercenaries.

I'd say half liverpool fans are glory fans and are only there cos of the money they have and cos their up there in the top 4. Its amazing how many of them dont seem that interested in football when the team has a little dip, yet anytime they get slightly near success the've been fans forever.

So if your a true football fan then support Everton, if your in it just to support the big team of the moment then chose any of arsenal, chelsea, liverpool or utd and be just another glory fan. Most their fans couldnt even name their own teams know its history.

We are the White Sox, they are the Cubs.

While the Cubs enjoy a vast Midwestern following... the Chicago White Sox fan base is largely tied to the Chicago area, particularly on the South Side and south suburban metropolitan area. There is a close identification of these communities to the team. In this sense, the White Sox... represent what may be one of the last of the great local baseball institutions, in the way that the Brooklyn Dodgers were once a central institution of the Brooklyn community.

The Cubs are one of the most popular teams in sports, as evidenced by their ticket sales. The Cubs rank fifth in MLB apparel sales, and are one of the most profitable teams in all of sports.

Interesting how the Brooklyn Dodgers get mentioned, as it is the 50th anniversary of them moving from Brooklyn across country to LA, this year. And how they have prospered (I am in no way suggesting a 4000 mile move would do Everton good)

We do not choose, we are chosen.

Sounds like this guy's already past it. If he's debating about who to support, he's a lost cause already.

Oh, and remind him it's the Big 3 consisting of Arsenal, ManU, and Chelsea.

How Liverpool ever got into the equation is beyond me.
