Everton are planning on playing a friendly in Edmonton, Canada this July, according to a report in The Edmonton Journal.

According to the newspaper, a contract has been signed for Everton to play against a team to be determined on July 25, 2009 at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta.

Everton’s opponent has not yet been named, but Mike Traficante, the past present of the Alberta Soccer Association and current technical director for the Canadian Soccer Association, said on Monday that organizers are trying to secure a top team from Argentina.

A press conference to announce the July 25 Everton game in Edmonton is expected in the next few days.

Everton announced earlier this week that they’ll be playing a friendly in Ghana in early July. Plus, Everton has already been booked to play against the Major League Soccer all-star team in Salt Lake City on July 29, 2009.

Ghana, Canada, can't wait to see where the rest of the pre season games are like.. There are a few Americans here, not sure about Canadians but might be a chance to catch the blues over there.

Edmonton?!?! Man alive. EFC are not making it easy for us.......

Seems like a weird place to have a game like that but apparently it's part of a 100th anniversary of the province's "soccer" association.

Soccer's elite to play in city - From The Edmonton Journal

meh.

Ghana and Canada.

Way to go, ey.

It's like medical treatment for muscles injuries, they apply heat packs and then ice packs, they're just trying to get the team fully fit.

Dont worry about Australia though will you ****s.

We're off to Utah anyways, so it's hardly a million miles to fly up to Edmonton for a few days.

Asia's pretty well booked out already with (so far) Liverpool (coming here to S'pore and ripping their fans off royally), Man Utd, Spurs, Chelsea, West Ham, Hull whilst Fulham & Wolves are in Australia.

That's a fair amount of competition for attention without even figuring in any Serie A or La Liga sides that'll be out this way as well.

Makes sense to me to take the show on the road around North America - massively popular at grassroots level, I'm assuming that there's millions over there that haven't chosen their Premiership alliegence yet... Plus, in general, there's more disposable income going around (than in Asia) for kids to convince their folks to spend on our gear.

Had a quick look around and it seems Real Madrid are the only other big club heading to Canada this summer and if it's seen as a good idea by their PR and money men, then it's good enough for me!...

The Ghana trip's clearly leaning more towards initiating some sort of permanent scouting/academy network on the ground there similar to what we have in Nigeria.
