I dont really know why i started this thread, i was going to start talking about the games we have left to play, if we do this or if the other teams do that, but i cant be asked, all i can be bothered to write is that it's effing close for those three euro spots, oh yes and that Villa beat Portsmouth tomorrow, sorry lads, just pissed off after the game.

COYB

EDIT ~ One more thing, thank god for our goal difference, it could be the different between qualifying for the UEFA Cup and having to get there through the Inter-Toto.

COYB

EDIT AGAIN ~ My faith must be coming back!! Hammers defeat starting to fade and mood getting more optimistic again.
Bolton have to play away to chelsea next week by the way, and i'm sure that pompey have still to play Arsenal and the [Poor language removed], if we can just turn them over it could, should be enough to qualify.
C'mon you [Poor language removed] blue boys, dont let yourselves or the fans down, we've come this far one more big effort and we are almost there.

We WILL qualify, no [Poor language removed] problem.

after some good weekends... this was a nightmare for efc.

Huh? OK, we lost, but so did Notlob, and Spurs dropped 2 points as well. A Villa win tomorrow, or even a draw, and it's a decent weekend after all.

If we had won today, then even if Bolton and Spurs also won, we'd be happy.

Yes, I also hate it when we lose, but let's get some perspective here. Ev's edits of the original post say it all. COYB!

Well am I pleased to see you mate, I'm some what disheartened after today but as always you get things in perspective, thanks CT

chaps... it was not just bad because we lost (obvious) but that reading beat bolton. i think the goal is not to finish 5th- but to finish in a european place. for this you have to take a different look on results at the weekend. in the race for 5th bolton losing was good... but to ensure european footy we need teams outside the top 7 to lose. so reading beating bolton closes up the chasing pack. this is bad!

remember we have chelsea away(!) and the mancs so of the last three games we have the hardest run in.

come on blues. hold your bottle.

As Teppic said, the weekend was a funny one, with our immediate rivals (Spurs and Bolton) both failing to capitalise but those outside the top 7 doing well and closing the gap.

What concerns me most of all isn't the run-in, or indeed other clubs fixtures and form, but our current injury problems. With Vic, Vaughan and possibly AJ out injured, plus Cahill, we're lacking bite up front. Hopefully the likes of Fernandes and Valente (possibly even VDM) will be fresh and fit to give us a bit more for the run-in but our squad is really being stretched.

I think it will probably be a case of guts and spirit that carry us over the line into Europe as I can't see 3 clubs below us having winning runs between now and the end so it's who can scrabble enough points together to fall over the line in front.

With all the doom and gloom, my BBC Predictions have normally had us squeaking into Europe in 6th previously, but for the first time today, I had us in 5th (on goal difference from Tottenham and two points clear of Reading).

Mind you, I am quite confident against MU and Portsmouth...
