Premier League = three divisions

Yes. I agree and it is depressing.

I still want us to finish 7th, for reasons for pride and showing a clear improvement, on last season, in finishing terms, if nothing else.

It's not so much I expected us to rival any of those teams, but I have been, as of now, hugely disappointed with our "agricultural" style of football.

We could finish 7th looking like there is more to come, or finish 7th by default and the shambolic "quality" of the sides around us.

We will just have to see with Moshiri and what turns up in the next two windows.

If they make decent money available and conduct business in a slick and organised manner, then they'll get my credit.

In that scenario, it's then down to RK/SW to invest wisely and for the long-term.

I would like to be surprised for the good. Perhaps today is a day for positivity, but my gut reaction to some of the players linked (aside form Lookman) give me cause for concern.

We should be showing evidence of 4 months of scouting across Europe and beyond in January.

Don't get me wrong I like Schneiderlin, but with both him and Depay I get the sense of "let's just phone up the guys down the road" and see what's on offer. Like going to Tesco at 10pm before they throw out that days' unsold fresh food.
Forgive me mate, but that sort of organic development and progression is now looking a little quaint. I used to subscribe to it too. But the fact is that in this league unless you can put serious wedge down in a short period of time a club cant bridge the gap to established season in season out elite clubs. Maybe one season a flash in the pan arrives, but just as with Leicester it falls away...embarrassingly so.

The one criticism I would level at Moshiri at this stage, is indeed related to the 49% ownership.

I hope the conditions in place for him to acquire what is it, up to 76% of holdings, are met this year.

The biggest worry for me is that there hasn't really been any sense of the club being "Under New Management" in the boardroom and beyond, other than the GP facelift, and that there won't be whilst he remains majority shareholder only.

God I do seem to be in bad form today. :)

Business as usual mate.

We have an owner who cant or wont buy all the shares because of some legal reason that would place him at a disadvantage under certain future circumstances. I think that tells you in microcosm all you need to know about our game changer.

If we had a City/Chelsea type takeover the type of restrictions on FFP would be got around with commercial contracts appearing out of the woodwork that could be ploughed into the team...just as they were at City a few seasons back. Failing that an owner could just say: 'bollocks to it, we may be fined or even barred from the EL for a season or so, we're just going to invest" and cut through that Gordian Know like that.

We have to face that we have no such Blue Knight with a wedge or contacts who can invest and that our revolution has been a bit of a storm in a teacup.
We have an owner who has an agreement in place to buy up remaining shares from previous major shareholdings at agreed points in the future. Said owner has recently given an 80m open ended loan to pay off historic debt. He has moved the new stadium issue on more in 12 mths than the previous regime did in 20yrs. The loopholes exploited by City were subsequently closed. Financially Moshiri is not in the same league as Mansoor or Abramovic, so throwing a billion quid at the squad is an unrealistic expectation and tbf you already know this.

It comes as no surprise that the top 6 teams have had talks about a super league, and we were markedly absent.

Most of the problem is attitude and drive. To challenge, you have to be smart as well. Liverpool and Spurs have shown that it can be done on a consistent level without the expenditure of the big three - Chelsea, United and City.

I do believe we are heading in the right direction. Hopefully we can make it the challenging 'Seven'.
D'you know what mate, I used to seethe with anger when the notion that those clubs would form a breakaway league was put forward. I felt insulted. Now I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that it might be for the best, because the reality of our inevitable second rate status as a PL club is beginning to sink in.

We have had no game changer. Our chance at that feels like it evaporated over the summer. We were sold a pup.

lollollollol

It's related, yes. But the thread and discussion is about us making the up the gap. I dont see it. Maybe others do.

Its related, in every single post in this thread you have taken a swipe at Moshiri.

Hes done more in 9 months than any other owner of Everton in the last 20 years, but thats cool, you keep stamping your feet David, maybe if you scweam, wearly, wearly loudly he will hire Martinez back.

The FFP rules are an irrelevancy. They only come into play if you wish to play in Europe in the short term.

We cant make up the ground on the new top six without serious wonga. Moshiri is loaning money, he's not even investing.

STCC rules David, look them up.

Educate yourself.

Just another Moshiri bashing thread this really. Would slip seemlessly into the existing Moshiri thread.
