Proper Football Ground

It was my first visit to Goodison Park yesterday as I was unable to make it on the last 2 visits. I was familiar with the layout having parked there for Anfield, however the matchday experience was quite something.

I love a stadium with character and Goodison oozes character. It must be very special to walk down Gwladys Street on a matchday and soak in the nostalgia. I felt like I was visiting a piece of football history and I'm guessing it will be bittersweet when the place has to come down. I can understand the need for development - it's something we're wrestling with at the City Ground.

As for the match, I just think the quality in players like Gibbs-White and Elanga showed. I don't think we played our best but did enough to win.

You'll need to move on from Dyche, which seemed to be the consensus of most Everton fans I spoke to. Good luck with the new ownership and move to the stadium. It would be great if you could keep some of the character of Goodison at the Docks.

I liked the away days at the older grounds that had a bit of character about them much more than most of the new build grounds. The area surrounding Goodison hasn`t really changed since the days of Dixie Dean and Co. But the restriction on how to modernize the ground basically made the decision to find a new site a necessity.

Yes, walking round the ground, I could see that expansion at Goodison would almost be impossible. Your new place looks very impressive, it'll just be a case of trying to retain that spirit and atmosphere of the old place, which is something West Ham lost when they moved.

Not impossible as our neighbours have proved down the years, but we had a bit of respect for the people living in the are around our ground.
The London stadium was originally designed to be reduced in size after the Olympics and kept as an athletics stadium. Spurs wanted to knock the whole thing down and West Ham were happy to leave as is and put temporary seats behind the goals to make it feel more like a football ground. Did n`t really work out and I`m glad I don`t have to be going to games every other week there.

Goodbye Goodison Park

From my County Road flat, I’ll miss the view.

The Grand Old Lady...all dressed in blue.

But sadly, she’s not kept up with the times.

As she’s no longer dressed up ‘to the nines’

So, only one more League ‘derby’ to remain.

No more fans heading down Spellow Lane.

County Road will miss the match day trade.

No more sires going off like a wartime air raid!

So many times I stood on the old Park End.

It’s like saying ‘goodbye’ to a dear old friend.

Could things have been different, who knows?

I watched with interest what option they chose.

But the worst idea all round, it has to be said.

Was a stadium half blue and a stadium half red!

For all our sakes, that never saw the light of day.

In the end, I suppose there was only one way.

Progress is progress, but me, I live in the past.

I cling on to the hope that great things will last.

Now I’m a proud old Red, through and through.

But I will sincerely miss old Goodison Park too!
