Its about time. The fat PS3 was hideously ugly it looked like a George Foreman Grill. $300 is alot of money for a console that plays pretty much the same games as the Xbox. Plus Xbox internet is much more polished than sony's.
Still don't think too many people will buy it. Xbox could probably lower the Xbox core system down to say $129-149 and maybe turn a profit. The Wii could also be profitable at 1/2 its $250 price.

ms are putting the price UP of the bog standard base 360...
As for the new ps3 having had one from launch its about time it came down in price i paid almost 500 pound for mine with a couple of games and only this year in truth has it become my console of choice.
On a side note good to see MS charging rip off prices £20 or so for old games on xbox live as i predicted when they broke the news at E3 gaming going to get ever more pricey and if it comes to pass the next generation of consoles dont have disk drives at all then we really will be at thier mercy..
Just goes to show you games publishers really are stupid and greedy a dangerous combination.

Some of the prices for old games for download on consoles are ridiculous. You could just buy a compalation for 15-20 bucks and have a hard copy to boot. At least the Xbox has a removeable harddrive that should be able to transfer to the next gen console.
In defense of publishers games are much more expensive to publish now compared to PS1 games. On the PS1 you could make a decent game and only have a staff of say 25 people. Now you need like 3-5 times of staff members. Remember back in the SNES days some games were pushing $70-80 mark (I think Donkey Kong Country on the SNES was $85). Adjust that for inflation and its over $100 today. I remember paying $70 for Phantasy Star 2 back in 1989. That being said game publishers rip off the UK. The games cost almost twice as much as they do in the states (and the UK is the worlds 3rd largest market for videogames too, I'm not sure why Britian needs the PAL version, they should just send you the NA version). You are better off chipping your PS3 (if you can chip them) and importing games off ebay.

mate i got an asian version of a game called demons souls a few weeks back great game worked from the off no probs.
Of course i agree games cost more to make now but the price MS are asking is silly,they'll just shoot themselves in the foot price em cheap and people will come,as it stands atm noone will touch them with a bargepole.
And yup i've paid over the odds in the past for games but we've got used to not paying full price for them now,back then we only had shops now we have the net and online shopping the goalposts have moved massivley sincethise days thankfully.

I've got one . Like everything else electrical in my house - courtesy of TalkSport . Not being ungrateful or anything , but , it's not all that . Granted , I've only layed about 5 games on it , but it wasn't a £300 machine to me .
Plus , I used it to come on here , and the keyboard aspect was , ... I may as well have written in braille .
I was made up to win it , but the PS2 and the X-box I won previously were both better . If that makes any sense ???

Shoot 'em up's , I've got call of duty- second world war - and am still on the level with the russkies in the tank factory . I've had it 2 years .
