Pubs in Liverpool

So travelling up from South wales to Liverpool many times over the years I’ve grown a real love for the city… and especially the pubs! There are boozers this city with finer architecture than bourgeois European palaces ffs! 😆
I’m really interested to what pubs are most beloved by Evertonians and people who live in the city.
Also do people here appreciate how great the pubs here are compared to other cities or are they taken for granted?

These are some of my favourites (and why) I’d love to hear yours.

Peter Kavanagh’s- just the pub by which all others should be judged in my opinion. Looks chaotic with all the stuff hanging from the wall but extremely well kept. not to mention cozy snugs and Great Guinness too! Quintessential scouse boozer as far as I’m concerned.

Peg legs - low key architectural gem with great views of the Mersey. (When stood outside 😆)

The Big House- just really impressive, cavernous interior and intricate artwork really gives off the vibe of Liverpool’s maritime might at the time of its building. (Leicester Wetherspoons this ain’t)

The Philharmonic - again it’s an absolute architectural masterpiece that’s so ostentatious it would make Versailles blush! All that for a pint of mild!

The Crown - another very impressive looking interior (and exterior mind!) with the fancy white ceilings polished wood and what have you. Also an early opener and close to the station for first or last pint!

Shenanigans- looks like something you’d find in Hell’s Kitchen, New York stood on its own there on Tithebarn st. Opens early for when that train rolls in just after 9am too! Best Guinness in Liverpool maybe?? 🤔

Doctor Duncan’s an elaborately tiled Victorian beauty. Great spot too for taxis to goodison.

Thomas Rigby’s - in fact Dale st - in general with its numerous ancient hostelries.

Also honourable mentions too for other places for a variety of reasons… the White Star, Old Post Office
The Croc, lanigans (Guinness & early opening) The Dispensary (one of the only places I know that has Murphy’s )

I’d love to hear your shouts.

The bridwell

Great pub , a superb and unique environment with the best landlord I’ve ever encountered bar non .From the gaffer down everyone working there knows their job and puts 99% of boozers to shame .also somehow Manages to be a pub and a bar and I’ve never figured out how .

The Denbigh Castle

In my opinion The go to place for blues , great service and unrivalled post match for atmosphere. On non-match days it’s just a cracking traditional pub.

The excelsior

If it’s not broke don’t fix it , great location and on match days in particular a cracking clientele.

In my opinion helps they’re all owned by decent match going blues

A cracking set of pubs, you get it.

Pleased to see the Brido and Denbo added. The best there is.

Great shout on all 3 there . The Excelsior is a cracker. One of my favourites. Reminds me of the pubs you had down Cardiff docks though there’s maybe only one of those left now.

Bridewell - agreed! Great staff in there. Very interesting place for a swift half!

The Denbigh - has long been on the list as it’s an Evertonian pub but so far evaded me. I meant to go before the Brentford game but i ended up going to the Bramley Moore and time got away from me!

Honourable mentions to :

The Belverdere - cracking ale, wonderful selection of whiskies and one of the nicest places to sit outside in Liverpool when the weathers nice.

Just up the road, the Caledonia - another one with cracking ale, possibly one of the cheapest pubs in Liverpool and a wonderfully eclectic clientele.

Around the corner, the Casa - another with a mad mix of customers and a city centre community boozer.

Down the road - The Roscoe Head - it`s been in every edition of the Good Beer guide, what more is to be said.

Around the corner - The Dispensary - cracking ale, full of character and gets busy on match days ( not sure if he crazy owner is still there ? )

A bit of walk, down towards the Docks - The Baltic Fleet, another wonderful old boozer, with a big selection of ales and world beers ( card only )

Was in the Roscoe Head yesterday. And yes the Dispensary owner is gone.
