He's not an awful guy to have on the bench. Okay in the air, can go forward a little bit, but he's not a starter on a solid squad. Ashley Williams does some things well, but he's also the type of player that could fall off a cliff. If we get an elite CB, he replaces Mori, but I wouldn't necessarily dump him unless we wants to leave. Holgate is there, but he's just SOOO slight. He can play a little bit as a RCB in a back 5, maybe even a RB in a 4, but he still has some maturing to do. Crouch just killed him two games ago.

But Mori can't be the starter next year. He just can't.

Mori is miles stronger than Jags and should have been in the team from the start of the season. Also, despite all the criticism he's getting on this thread his errors have been few and far between - nothing like the Jags penalties at City or the Soton away goal.

One goal in the previous four games indicates that the defense is ok.

Yesterday he passed the ball really well and had a fair game. My take on the goals is that if you give Wiltshire time he can pick a defense apart. Silva had no time in the City game to do much but yesterday Bournemouth's midfield ran the match for long periods. Maybe having both Morgan and Barry is not the best combination.

Anyway, I thought he was better than Williams yesterday and to find a top, left-footed central defender is not so easy.

A left-back and a centre-forward to replace Rom would be at the top of My to do list this summer before replacing Mori.

You don't replace our top scorer. You get him to sign a new contract and show him Everton are on the right track.

The main problem with RFM is that he is the slowest centre half we have had since Davie Weir but without Weirs telepathic ability to know where the ball is going to be.

And he aint gonna get faster

He makes plenty of errors mate. Pretty much every game he gets dragged out of position and gets caught ball watching. They aren't as obvious as getting caught in possession or giving away a penalty but they can be just as damaging.

I think he's just not up there for the 'play out from the back' approach. Number of times yesterday when Robles would pass to him and we're all cringing. Bournemouth's strikers sniffed it too and we're ready to run at him when the keeper had the ball.
Maybe more confidence will help that, but maybe the lad just has lead feet. Solid defender tho, good for an opposition corner etc.
I'd tell the others to look for the pass and tell him to just hit the touchline as far out as he can hit it.
He had a shocker yesterday but it was covered up by the other 10 playing very well. Long-term we need someone who doesn't panic like he does, an all-round better centre half, but for now he can do a job in a three as long as the other two help him out.

Which goals as a result of Mori's ball watching do you refer to?

Williams was by far and away the worst player on the pitch for us mate being exposed behind repeatedly, Mori was no worse than average and certainly not responsible for us conceding 3

BTW - Big Williams fan as well, but the deeper we play the more suspect he looks and a back 4 with him in it and Barry sitting deep is a disaster waiting to happen. Play a back 3 with him in - he looks very good, play a back 4 with a more mobile player than Barry which means we don't sit as deep - he also looks fine

He makes my eyes bleed when he's on the ball, but what was he doing for that Arter goal on Saturday? The most pathetic non-tackle I've ever seen.

One little thing I picked up on Saturday was in the first half, Bournemouth knocked a ball down the channel, but head height for Funes to just head away comfortably. Instead he let it go over his head, I think he was hoping he'd gather possession again or shepherd it out. Instead that Josh King (who had a decent game to be fair) ran him all the way and won a corner. It's small moments like that which seperate decent defenders from the quality defenders we require.

He's been more than adequate cover though and he gives his all.
