If a learner drove a car with a parent who had passed their test rather than using a driving instructor, would that be legal? - Or would some sort of specific insurance have to be in place?

How does it work when with a driving instructor then? - because the person driving isn't insured... or are they?

Take it driving instructors insure their car and other drivers?

I didn't think you could get car insurance if you hadn't passed your test?

Ah god knows...

For example your parents/friend whoever will call their insurance company and say ack Im teaching me lad (if they were scottish) they would then price it up accordingly.

Ahh now you are getting into the realms of vehicles being insured for any driver, Uber expensive.

My car is insured for all licensed drivers. My insurance.....$65 a month for full coverage and $250/$250 deductibles. Go US insurance! (y)

Am paying 231 quid a month for mine - as I have said a few times.

Absolutely shocking.

After 8 months it goes down to 183 a month.... lucky me ay.

You dont have to do it with a instructor, but should do as they know the manoevures.

But as long as your insured on the car you are driving, it's fine.

I'm paying 166 a month with Quinn-Direct.

Doing pass plus and that takes 20% off.

Disgrace, who you with D?

My gf is starting hers soon and the car she will be learning in with an instructor is the same as her mums so shes going to do the first few lessons with her - just 2 get used to car.

Don't see any problem ,when I got married in 1973 I added my wife to car insurance and taught her to drive it caused a lot of arguments between us but no problem legal wise did the same with my daughter in 1990 could not now as I have a motability car allowed a named driver but no L platers(y)

you need provisional insurance so both the person driving and the passenger are insured and the passenger has more than 3 years experience
