Redundancy help

I believe they will look to move us elsewhere within the business if we are the unlucky ones. But that’s not a guarantee.

Basically said they are restructuring due to not enough work streams pish. The boss has been told he’s up for redundancy and fighting for no job. I.e he’s a goner.

Basically leaves 5 of us fighting over 3 jobs. 4 of us are real good mates. 1 is an older bloke who’s been off this week for cancer treatment. The fookers called him on the phone to tell him instead of waiting until he’s back on Monday.

All very unsavoury.
Not sure but I don't think they can do a thing to him while he is on the sick

Sorry to hear this @john jako and I don't have any good advice. But just want to say good luck and I'm sure you will be sound regardless of what happens.

But if your taking your ICBM launching skills freelance I've got a few decent targets to propose, namely one across from stanley park with a dodgy stand.

I'm not familiar with UK employment law, so it's hard to say. But in most countries, there is a bare minimum threshold companies have to meet in terms of notice and severance package that might seem pretty unfair. I've heard of plenty of fantastic severance packages, but at the end of the day they are at company discretion.

You need to find out two things:

1. What is the severance package. Contact every HR stooge in the place until you get an answer. They can't expect you to make a decision like this without that info

2. What your rights are: People have posted links here, but I think gathering all the information you can get right now and calling Citizen's Information on the phone is the quickest and best way of getting advice. We're all just guessing here

Can I ask what industry is? How would you gauge your employability?
UK employment law is due to interpretation in large & small firms - thet dread the threat of Industrial tribunials - hence a Union is handy - if they break any procedures - constructive dismissal or victimisation is a route you could take if you think it's worthwhile?

Hi all,

Has anyone been through redundancy before? I am in a team of 5 that they need to cut down to a team of 3. They have said they want 2 people to take voluntary redundancy or we have to start a desktop screen process next week. Basically got told today. People have until tomorrow to tell the company if they are willing to take voluntary redundancy. If not they will score us via some matrix and let us know on Monday who is for the chop. We will be gone on 30th of November. It all seems abit rushed. Is this normal and ok process? Nobody in the team had an inkling this would be happening. Also our manager is getting the hook and he was unaware.

I’m not apart of a union and only have a months notice to give so does that mean am fooked?

Might need to set up a gofundme page to solve my Bucky and tennants needs @COYBL25
Don't forget mate any money you'll get is tax free. Not any comfort like but it is a bonus. The questioners that get you to fill in is already loaded. They will get rid of who they want. The days of LIFO are gone. The only advice I can give you is CAB like I said earlier. And the next job join a union

It's taxed, but no NI plus pension taken out .....

The guy needs to drag it out as long as he can on the sick.
Perfectly acceptable in these circumstances imo
If he gets full pay then yes as ESA is the same as unemployment benefit now - Tory sods ..... he needs to look for another job as even if he is fortunate to keep his job the workload will be spread & the firm is close to going under any rate.....
