Relatives of John Berry (1957-1995)

Hi all,

My father died in 1995 aged 37, he was an Everton fan and I believe his ashes are buried at Goodison Park. At the time of his death, when I was 11, I wasn't on speaking terms with him. After his death, I no longer had any contact with his two brothers or his sisters and never really knew them at all.

Nonetheless, I'm hoping to come up to Goodison for the last game of the season and I'll be wearing my Dad's own scarf. I've already been in touch with the club about what is to happen with the ashes at the stadium and they have been as helpful as they can be.

Anyway, I am hoping before then to get in touch with his brothers or his sisters, I just don't have any way of locating them. One of his sisters was Jill Berry (I don't know of her married surname) and his brothers were Paul and Graham - their father was Raymond Berry and their mother was called Vera Norris.

Basically, I'm putting this out there in the unlikely event that somebody might know my aunts and uncles, as I'd actually really like to reach out to them.

Thanks in advance and best of luck for the season, I'm rooting for you to stay up (I'm a Norwich City fan myself, so I can hope for Everton's survival and know that, for once, it won't be at our expense).

Oh, and this is my Dad:

Hi Tim, have you asked Everton who put the ashes at Goodison Park? Not sure if it was your mum or not, but if it was one of his brothers or sisters I'd imagine they will also have been in touch with the club about his ashes getting moved when we move stadium. They might be able to then act as an intermediary and get you in contact with one of them.

All the best anyway mate and I hope you find them

I understand that it was organised by his sister, my mum and my dad were divorced and it was just something I wasn’t able to be a part of at the time. Sadly, Everton’s record keeping in 1995 wasn’t great though and there doesn’t appear to be a record of it on their database any more - which is not to say that the ashes are not there but either way the club have been very supportive of keeping me in the know about what is to happen with the Goodison Heritage Project and any ashes that are moved from the stadium after the season. Jillian might well be an Everton member herself but of course I only know her maiden name (Berry) and I know that she married, so can’t really provide any more information to the club for them to trace her and reach out to her.

If your on twitter there is some Everton fans with big followings that might be able to retweet your story and help.

Search for The Bobble @elbobble I think and maybe the 1878's just do a few searches and send them a message. I'm sure they would help.

Someone in the wider Everton community may know who you are looking for and can put you in touch. Try Facebook for Everton groups as well.

Best of luck with your search.
