2020/21 Richarlison

We couldn't even last the remainder of that game without him, if he was on Cavani would not have scored, I find it very hard to applaud us recently, even though we have won games the football has been horrid. We are just piling everyone behind the ball and cannot get up the pitch, the points are welcome but I need to see more in attack. If James was playing this deep he'd be dreadful also so him coming back isn't really a solution to anything, we need to learn to keep the ball and we need to stop defending so deep.

If it works, I'm not going to argue with the how. I don't think we'd set up the way we have been if we had James for those fixtures. We'd set up further forward, force the ball to him repeatedly and let him find the moments of distributional genius when he could, rather than sit behind the ball and wait for openings to exploit.

Richarlison is insanely dangerous on the counter; the goal last season off of DCL's midfield header to spring him and the insanity that resulted from Digne's perfect Route One ball spring immediately to mind. Part of the reason he's been "bad" is that we haven't had the personnel to create those opportunities.
DCL is occasionally capable if we play him further back, but we're much better off playing him as a Chicharito-style poacher now that he's converting chances in the box more reliably.

We're likely to miss that counterattacking potency dearly right now.

this is a time of the season to be pragmatic, lots of games coming thick and fast, injuries to key players, ropey weather (like tonight will be pretty windy), its a time for getting points on the board, the pretty stuff comes when the decent players come back

If a very ordinary football player has a great work rate and forces the opponent to account for them on every possession, sure.

Part of the reason that DCL has been able to convert things coming in from the right is that the defense can't cheat on DCL and has to make sure they're in position to stop the threat on the left as well.

He's more than his stats, and it's not a pcoincidence that our results without him have been poor this season. We can get by without him, or we can get by without the other pieces we've been living without, but we do not seem to be able to get by without both him and the other absent pieces.

Well, working hard and being marked by the opponent are hardly qualities that make you a world-class player. When you get to the opponent's third, the best you can hope for is numerical equality. Then you have had a good build-up play. Still, one is largely dependent on the players' creativity, and how good they are in 1 vs. 1 situations. It's the ability to solve these situations that makes world class players just that.

We're just adapting to the situation, We was conceding nearly 2 goals every game and now we've lost two people who create our most chances, It's not pretty but it's getting the job done in the toughest part of the season, 9 points against Chelsea/Leicester/Arsenal without Rodrigez/James/Allan that's manager of the month stuff.

An unlikeable player imo. Definitely a decent enough player..possibly too good for us...but unlikeable. I shan’t be sorry when he goes to a SKY6 club next season

I'll give you that I see it. He's a proper snide, but he's our snide. Off the top of my head, Diego Costa was the kind of player who was loathed by everyone except the team he happened to play for at the monent.

I don't think that Richarlison is in Costa's league for being unlikeable, but I see what you're getting at.

Richarlison brings so much more to the team than goals and assists, he is a tireless runner, presses, gets back to help the defence and his presence in and around the opposition box scares the defenders which, in turn, opens up space for DCL.

The old Joanie Mitchell song comes to mind with this lad, ‘you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone’ .
