Can it actually get any worse? I think there's only one way for Martinez to go, and that is up.

And I'm not doing this to be controversial, I like the man, there is something about him and I am dying for him to succeed, maybe I'm soft and would hate him to lose his job as we all know he is working hard to build something here. I just him to acknowledge his wrong-doings and have that same inspiration he had two years ago. I've got a soft spot for him as he's a really nice person.
It can actually. Poor League form continues and we drop to Dave's beloved 15th. Players don't turn up for the semi and we get rolled over.
Are you visualising it in here and beyond?

It's sad to say but I fear his position might be untenable, now.

Sack a manger and jeopardise a vital cup semi a mere few weeks away or keep him until at least the end of the season and jeopardise the squad and team spirit?

Sh*te position to be in.

Just turn it around Bobby you [Poor language removed] melt.

Let's think differently for a minute. Forget about Martinez, let's look at external factors, before Martinez took over the only player we would liked to have kept hold of was Kevin Mirallas. At the time he was our biggest property and for him to stay was to be massive. Now since Martinez came to the club he has built an incredible squad, we have big players like John Stones, Ross Barkley, Romelu Lukaku, Gerard Deulofeu. I know only two are Martinez's signings but Stones and Barkley did not have interest before-hand. So the season 2013-14 sort of passed by without major talk of transfers, Leighton Baines turned down Man Utd. 2014-15 there was interest in Ross Barkley but nothing significant, there was dressing room unrest and we done what we had to, to alleviate it. 2015-16 started with official offers for John Stones, even after he handed in a transfer request, they were turned down but in my opinion this started some squad unrest. Steven Naismith was sold to Norwich, some pleased, some not. I would say Steven was a good character of the dressing room, had a great personality and would've been one to speak up when needed. So we bring in a Centre forward from Russia and it was obvious to see there was some barriers with his adjusting difficulties. Now there's talk of bids for Romelu Lukaku and this will be on his mind as well as other players. So aside from the manager, there are other situations which could be pulling the current squad apart. Players don't know their futures, players don't know who they'll be playing with next season. There's uncertainty. Players aren't sure if they'll be kept on. So things like this will affect chemistry. I'm not trying to make excuses, all I am saying is there's other factors. I wrote this quite quickly so apologies for not elaborating in detail.

With our players constantly spoken about by the press, it's bound to do no good for the dressing room and this will be playing a role in the squad unrest.

Spot on mate. There's a lot of deadwood in the squad. Gibson and Pienaar are apparently on half a million a month between them. I'm sure having 'characters' like that around the squad, knowing they've been bombed out, and will soon be scraping around for a contract is great for the harmony.

Football players are notorious for kicking up a fuss, or 'knocking' on the managers door when they aren't getting a look in. Pienaar has even moaned to the press about being fit and not getting used.... Well whoopty-do Steven, you've managed to stay fit for more than a month for the first time in 2 years, just months before your contract runs out..... Obviously should be one of the first names on the team sheet, and first in line for a new contract.....

Moyes' position would have been viewed on here as being untenable too, the season before we finished 4th. It's not always that clear cut.....

While I'd argue different circumstances I do agree with what you're saying purely based on results and that we might just be in a bad way and can turn it around.

That said I just can't get out my head all the things that have been made public to suggest something dodgy is going on behind the scenes. Can't remember that with the early Moyes era, nor such a volume of fans who have become disenchanted with the manager.

Would it? We finished 7th the season before that one so maybe people would have given him a chance like they did last season with RM. The untenable position for Bobby is the result of two honking seasons not one.

Obviously different circumstances. He still 'lost' the players though, and significantly, managed to achieve a lower points total than anything Walter Smith had achieved.

It's well known that there was massive discord between Moyes and the players that season, and the players effectively downed tools and donned the flip-flops once safety was assured. Then we added a couple of proper men to the squad in Cahill and Bent, who just got on with their job and started the ball properly rolling for moyes.

I love Barkley, but I'd swap him for 2004 Cahill in a heartbeat.

Yeah, it's a well known fact that the players downed tools and we scraped to a points total that was the lowest in our history.

Certainly these are clear contributing factors but surely it is the managers job to manage them. having 5 squad members coming out of contract at season's end is really a Martinez thing - he should have a more concrete plan to cut any deadwood that does not have them hanging around the squad and bringing the tempo down. He would know that.

no point in addressing anything until the semi at the earliest

I've been saying this myself until the last few days. Honestly not about it now.

It's a rather crap position to be in because either decision could have a negative effect on the team.

...yes mate, sadly, yes it can...it can get much, MUCH worse.

Here's hoping it doesn't eh...
