When we had the coward Moyes in charge. Roberto is a gambler. Which is what you need in cups.

The coward that was a better manager than Martinez? Just had a quick look, in the 106 games Martinez has been here, we've got 157 points. In the final 106 games of Moyes, we got 164 points and came no lower than 8th.

Martinez is steadily taking us backwards.

For the love of... will people please stop saying this? Please? It's so obviously wrong and stupid that I can't believe it's become a regular thing!

I said it a lot when we had Moyes here.

It means that finishing 5th repeatedly doesn't gain you anything unless you can use that team to win something.

And I stand by it.

So many people were sucking Martinez off for getting us 5th his first season and it meant nothing unless he could take that team and win something with it.

I like watching everton win games and play good football and play in europe, I really do, but it's trophies that matter. And 10 5th places in a row is a failiure if you can't win any silverware with that team.

The thing it is was meant as a criticism of 5th rather than a defence of 15th.

But a lot of folks do rate 2004-05 over winning the Cup. I personally think winning the Cup is a bigger achievement.

I don't know how this is being viewed as passive aggressive.
And I personally think that some blues who still support Martinez are braindead.*

But it's not an offence, cuz I've not said a specific poster hey.

*Obviously not serious here, as a note.

1-0 away defeat to Man Utd. No one could have been looking at that as a game we shouldn't lose. They are CL spot contenders.

I'm sorry, but the fume was called faux for very good reason: that's exactly what it is -faux.

The real rage from many of these people (perhaps the bulk) is that they know Martinez has that SF cup tie to fire us to season success. THATS the real game here: fear of that happening. They are literally enraged that we're still in their with a fantastic shot at the cup and ending the season on a historic note.

And that ^^^ is bang on the money, isn't it?

Dave, I've always had respect for your opinions, and as fans, they're just as valid as the next. But with lines such as those, you're really starting to sound not only bereft of a real argument, but quite childish. Why not just debate civilly instead of resorting to cheap shots? I'm sure cheap shots would be returned in much lesser volumes then.

I'm yet to really see us win a trophy, being too young to appreciate '95, so I as much as any other Blue want us to win the thing. That's regardless of Martinez. I'm sure every other person criticising him is of the same mind. Supporting one individual almost blindly no matter what is what is a little more puzzling. Nevertheless, that's your right, but questioning the motives and integrity of others is out of order.

Still, it's 'only' an internet forum. I'll give it a rest now, just like the players have for the last two games. Starting a new degree tomorrow so much more important things to worry about than proving myself to you!

Lol.

He was hopeless. He'd have been here another 11 years and still won f.a.

It's good that people who used to slate motes for the "knife to a gunfight" comment are supporting another bobberto defeat because "we've only won a utd twice in 22 years"

Jeez, bet they hope we don't draw them in the semis then.

Back on blob: bobby if you were in the wizard of oz you'd be looking for a brain

Astonishing, considering Martinez had a jump start of 72 points. Means we've won 72 in one year, then 85 over two.

Phenomenal.

Going to be interesting if we lose the FA Cup final.

Will Dave's unrelenting support for the Catalan Clown falter?

I suggest the answer to that is no. The wilfully ignorant corner he has painted himself into, lends no egress.

Wilful ignorance is the state and practice of ignoring any sensory input that appears to contradict one’s inner model of reality.
It is sometimes referred to as tactical stupidity.

Depending on the nature and strength of an individual’s pre-existing beliefs, wilful ignorance can manifest itself in different ways. The practice can entail completely disregarding established facts, evidence and/or reasonable opinions if they fail to meet one’s expectations. Often excuses will be made, stating that the source is unreliable, that the experiment was flawed or the opinion is too biased. More often than not this is simple circular reasoning: “I cannot agree with that source because it is untrustworthy because it disagrees with me”.

Of course, I might have totally misdiagnosed the ailment : after all, 72 points!! (and fifth...which is the same, supposedly, as 15th)

*sigh*
