If we could guarantee a trophy by doing it I'd accept a defeat from them.

...and anyone thinking clearly would too.
We should aim to win both matches. Any Evertonian should want that. Dunno how you'd guarantee an FA cup by losing to that shower?

Listen our performance in the league has not been good enough. We've underachieved and failed in the league. And we will have done whether we get maximum or minimum points out of our remaning 8 games.

However we still have a chance to win a cup.

All I have ever said is that I will not fully judge this season until we are out of both cups.

I don't get how it isn't obvious that at this point good performances in the league will not change our season around but good perfomances in the cup might. And likewise bad performances in the league won't end this season but bad performances in the cup will.

Is anyone else confused or is just me ?

I would dearly love us to win the FA Cup, I doubt that even if we win the cup it would be enough to save Martinez. I don't want to be cup winners and relegation candidates within two years, or sooner. I honestly believe Martinez will get us relegated if we give him enough time.
As for the cup, I pose a question, if Watford or Bournemouth were in our semi-final spot how confident would you be that one of them could win it.
Look at the league table, Martinez has brought us to the level of Bournemouth and Watford.
We are progressing backwards.
Pfffft!!!!

Look, we've won 15 trophies in our 138 history. Do you think I';d be remotely arsed if we had to lose to that lot to make it 16 trophies?

Dear me.

Anyone not thinking that way is a bit strange, imo.

I hop that answers your question.

I'm disappointed you didn't answer my question David

SOME MORE SNIPPETS FROM HIS POST MATCH INTERVIEW FROM TODAYS GAME:

"There were two games within a game. Up until the goal, we were the team with a better tempo and we always looked a threat"

"The goal was a very soft action, it's not up to our standards. The performances were very, very level, and we shouldn't have lost the game."

"It's that sort of game that came down to small margins - the ball hitting the crossbar is the difference between us getting something out of the game"

"We are a young group with great potential, but our home form hasn't been anywhere near good enough."

I wish I knew what he is smoking could be a real money winner.

9 wins from 30 games isn't acceptable. Yes we've only had 2 defeats away from home but come on our league form is dreadful. It is not acceptable to be in this position even with 2 semi finals. Whatever happened to nil satis nisi optimum? This season has been terrible, we don't even know who we're playing in the semi final yet and we still haven't won that yet. With this team we should be hoping to be top 6 and in both semi finals. The 9 wins are against Southampton away, stoke away, west brom away, Newcastle (home and away), Chelsea home, Sunderland home, villa (home and away). So basically 5 of them are against teams that could be in the championship next season. Nothing about that inspires any confidence.

League form does matter for a number of reasons:-
1) If you're playing well and doing well in the league it helps with your confidence when playing semi finals etc
2) It gives you an insight to whether you are progressing and how you are going to do in the league next season. Look at the second half of the 83-84 season, out of the last 19 games we won 9, drew 7, lost 3. A clear indication we could have a great league season the following year.
3) Doing well in the league shows players you are developing and moving forward as a team.
4) You can qualify for European football.
5) It matters in terms of prize money and revenue.
6) It establishes a winning mentality.

Yes winning a trophy is important but to dismiss league form as irrelevant is bizarre.

Bearing in mind what you have posted, what the hell went wrong after RM's first season?
