Exactly what good would a world class striker make in the way Koeman has us play. There is only room for 11 on the pitch, the keeper takes one of those, so 10. Koeman then wants to use 3 center backs. So down to 7 left. He then plays with 2 more defenders as full backs (and I will not call them wingback because they do nothing going forward). So down to 5 spots left.

He then will always play with Gana and Schneiderlin if healthy and available as holding midfielders. So down to 3 spots left. So far, no players offering any distribution in attack. So who takes up those last 3 spots? Rooney is going to play. Gilfy I would imagine. And for now Sandro. So replace Sandro with Costa and we still aren't offering any support in attack, still set up ultra defensive with our forward outnumbered and far too many players who are primarily out there to defend and break up play.

Conte plays 3 at the back as opposed to our 5, and he uses actual singers as his wing backs/ full backs. He converted Moses from a forward to winger, primarily there to attack. Same with Alonso, he's there to get forward and attack.

He lets his 3 defenders worry about defence, knowing most teams only use one striker. That allows one defender to get forward in attack when they want, still having 2 back to worry about the opposition. And Kante is in the middle of the park stopping the opposition from hitting them on the break.

Koeman sets out with mostly defenders. Conte sets out with mostly attackers. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the difference and predict the result 99/100 times.

Problem is, compadre, you didn't want Koeman in the first place. You wanted De Boer above him.

Your opinion is invalid. Hashtag sanctiomonus.

Haven't you got a baseball game to comment on instead? Now go rub up against some hopper and don't dare even @ me again when I warn you to back off.

Brutal vaulting right there.

Problem with that mentality is that if it takes that long to get them performing in that specific system, then the season to all intents and purposes could be left down to trying to finish seventh again and hoping one of the top six win the fa cup.

Plus trying to get players bedded into a system whilst at the same point having already played six games without several key components needed to even make that system work is frankly bonkers at best and horrible naivety at worst.
I agree but it seems that is koemans way of doing things. Back at Southampton he did have the players to make that system work where here he has essentially had to start from scratch and on a mass scale for a top 7 club.

I remember going back to November and he was saying the players couldn't play the pressing system he wanted but then persevering with it every week and it did get me a little doubtful about him as a manager. I think in our case we just need to accept it and hope the system works because if it does we will be very hard to beat and break the ceiling as a team and not as a bunch of individuals.

Take the likes of lewen, lookman, sandro , holgate, Davies to name a few. 3 years down the line they could be fantastic for is and all playong together as a unit, the negative for koeman is that he has them all a few years too early

I know I'll get slated but I'd rather have Holgate alongside Keane in a back four against more mobile teams.
I'd go with that too, both of the others will be an ongoing liability when we play away from home, meaning we'll always start with a negative set up.

this was one of the first matches in some time where Koeman seemed unwilling/able to make any meaningful changes. he is usually very proactive about fixing his own mistakes.

i was certain he would take off Williams at half to switch to a more attacking formation. down two, why on earth not? that same move worked quite well the last time.

but all he did was replace the personnel, though it was clearly mostly the shape, and not the players, that were the problem.
