Ronald Koeman discussion

It's not that simple. We should have put out a side that accounted for that fact and we didn't. I don't think anyone is shocked we lost but after watching that, it was like "what was the point of even showing up"?

We didn't have an adequate replacement. I understand your frustration, but I am still of the opinion that Snides makes all the difference......

There's plenty of reasons you could point to all of which would be valid. Even if Schneiderlin played I'd still think we were due a loss. Chelsea are a good team and were always going to be tough opposition but you still want to see more from us than we showed yesterday.

It was a terrible first half and a decent second. It's gone, we all knew we'd get beaten.....

He's maddeningly inconsistent. He's not exactly covered himself in glory tactically this year. The first half at Man City was his high point, but the rest of the games he's either put out the wrong side, or failed to adjust properly in time during the game.

How you can sit DCL for an unfit and unproven (in the PL) Sandro is remarkable. You don't have to be a genius. If a 32 year old Rooney has the legs to play 3 matches in a week, I'm pretty sure a 20 year DCL who can run all day can do it. It was so obvious how much better we were with an outlet for pressure, ESPECIALLY considering Schneiderlin was out, our best midfielder at retaining possession, was out and we needed that even more.

He really frustrates me. I want to love him desperately he's stubbornly not playing Kenny at RB, when he is the only true two way RB we have available to us right now, and he's proven himself worthy of a chance. If the lad makes a mistake so be it. Everyone else out there is at times too. It's so obvious we need the width that only Kenny can give us (until Seamus and Bolasie come back), yet not one minute. Not even a minute of game time.

Good post.

Still cant believe hes played Cuco over Kenny...not even given the boy minutes,

As I posted earlier, DCL should have started to give us the long ball option to relive pressure. There is no justification for starting an unfit Sandro ahead of him, or not playing Kenny. If we really went in expecting to lose it's the perfect opportunity. Davies was the standout in last year's fiasco and it benefited him the rest of the season.

The result doesn't bother me, the performance did.

We lost because Snides was banned, its that simple.......

Him being out was never going to help, same with the injury list, but lets be honest about this, that was on of the 4 hardest games we have to play this season, same can be said about Monday night, getting a point from those games with a European must not lose game in between was a decent return with a sensible head on

Exactly what good would a world class striker make in the way Koeman has us play. There is only room for 11 on the pitch, the keeper takes one of those, so 10. Koeman then wants to use 3 center backs. So down to 7 left. He then plays with 2 more defenders as full backs (and I will not call them wingback because they do nothing going forward). So down to 5 spots left.

He then will always play with Gana and Schneiderlin if healthy and available as holding midfielders. So down to 3 spots left. So far, no players offering any distribution in attack. So who takes up those last 3 spots? Rooney is going to play. Gilfy I would imagine. And for now Sandro. So replace Sandro with Costa and we still aren't offering any support in attack, still set up ultra defensive with our forward outnumbered and far too many players who are primarily out there to defend and break up play.

Conte plays 3 at the back as opposed to our 5, and he uses actual singers as his wing backs/ full backs. He converted Moses from a forward to winger, primarily there to attack. Same with Alonso, he's there to get forward and attack.

He lets his 3 defenders worry about defence, knowing most teams only use one striker. That allows one defender to get forward in attack when they want, still having 2 back to worry about the opposition. And Kante is in the middle of the park stopping the opposition from hitting them on the break.

Koeman sets out with mostly defenders. Conte sets out with mostly attackers. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the difference and predict the result 99/100 times.

Slight snag is that 3 of those 5 we have lack pace...we need to add pace in there to play a high line and let the wide defenders push forward.

That's why imo defensive signings are more crucial than a forward.

Look if he gives Kenney a chance and he soils himself, well ok that's football. I can then understand saying he's not ready. But Holgate is allowed to make a grade school mistake against City, but he's not punished because overall the lad offers something within the limits of what's he capable of.

Jonjoe is a better footballer than Holgate though. He offers you pace and and an attacking threat, AND he can defend. Hogate does one but not the other and so does Martina, just the opposite. What he doesn't have is experience, and he's not going to get that in the 23's.

Is the right answer.....

In a 3 Holgate should be RCB with Keane in the centre bellowing orders and Jags on the left unless we get in a star in the next few days.

Kenny at full back...lots of pace down that right side now....I think koeman is afraid to play 2 kids next to each other...

Martina has actually been playing ok, Holgate on the other hand let us down on Monday

If Cuco had played we'd have had major problems. Holgate has been brilliant but for one or two mistakes...valuable lessons learned.

Kenny should be in the side getting games now...were not hitting top 4 so why not blood the kids and get them tip top for a top 4 push next season when we have a couple more stars added.

I didn't watch the game live but have seen extended highlights. Big Ronkoe's team selection looked all over the shop. No width at all...why no Cuco?, he would have totally shifted the games dynamic. And why Sandro up top in place of DCL?
Big Ron really goosed a gangster's with that selection and I hope he's learned a lesson.

Totally agree. I actually like Holgate in that spot. Jags and Williams should never be starting together again ever. Holgate would flourish in that role, and with Kenny next to him, I think they'd do very well. Holgate is a very quick defender, so even if Jonjoe gets caught up the pitch, Holgate can cover.

Our #1 priority should be a left footed version of Holgate. I know people say we can't rely on DCL as our only centre forward, but at least we have him. We have not left sided defender under the age of 30.

He saved us just as much if not more though mate. I wasn't having a go at him, I was just saying it appears he is allowed to make the odd mistake and learn from it but others aren't given the same opportunity. I applaud Koeman for showing faith in Holgate, I just wish he'd extend that to Kenney is all.

Chelsea would have had Martina on toast. That would have been horrific. Martina may have a role to play, but it's not there.
