Ronald Koeman discussion

In a sense that we have started worse than we finished last season, not in an overall sense, I'm sure it's down to recruiting so many and losing our top scorer

I think that's the reason. Even last year at the start of the season we looked like 11 individuals; IIRC we barely had any shots on target, but once they gelled it clicked.

I'd like to see what we're like when we have a new number 9 and a good 10-15 games uber our belt. We'll be quite a force imo

He's been given a much better squad so he may go if it is a mediocre season.
Mate, it won't happen. Koeman won't be sacked unless this season we are stering relegation in the face. If he had two or three years left on his contract and we showed no signs of improvement then maybe I could see it happening then but with only one last season to go it just won't happen.

Which brings us full circle back to the original point...

Why do Sigurdsson and Rooney pick themselves? Do they complement eachother's skillsets in games like the one on Sunday? I don't think they do. The discussion related to whether we are picking a balanced team which works as a unit, or just shoehorning players into the side. I think you've just backed up the argument that it's the latter.
Maybe, but getting back to my original point he didn't have much wiggle room, it would have taken a brave manager indeed to have played Ademola instead of Gylfi cos he offers more width for example. In games like this I would say experience trumps balance

If experience means barely leaving our own half, waiting til the 70th odd minute to even have a shot on goal and waving the white flag... I'm not so sure

his contract is 3 years he is in his 2nd year!

Obv with hindsight yes we can all say it didn't work. Equally imagine if we'd have been thumped five nil if we'd gone gung ho (which I would think could have been a distinct possibility given the tiredness of the players and the quality of opposition)

I see where you're coming from but nobody was asking for us to go gung-ho, just to make an account for ourselves.

Attacking them a bit doesn't mean we would necessarily lose by more goals, if that's the thinking then we may as well surrender all 3 points vs the top 4 before we've even played all season

It would yes, and I'm not saying we should have played Lookman. I think the concerns I have come from the fact that we have that decision to make in the first place.

Have we signed Sigurdsson, Rooney and Sandro because the manager has specific plans for them, and believes they will work well in the system he wants to play, or have we just signed them because they're good players? Over 12 months into Koeman's tenure I'm still not quite sure what his plan is in terms of a style of play or a preferred formation. It may be that we're just 1/2 players short and with their introduction the whole thing will click into place. Here's hoping.

This annoys me though. There is a huge middle ground area between what we did on Sunday and going gung ho. Nobody's saying we should have turned up like the Harlem Globetrotters, just carried some sort of vague menace rather than the pretty spineless attitude we had.

I expect a much bette showing against Man U. Let's not forget we were decimat d with injuries and sandwiched in a crucial game at a melting pot the other side of Europe in between the two most difficult away games of the season, and lost 2-0. Owed played city Saturday it would have meant the squad flying out M

yes that's the way it turned out.but if they hadn't been so tired we'd have put up a better show

Yes, and I think it unlikely that he would be sacked at the end of year two with only year three remaining unless we have an absolute nightmare this season.

I could see this may happen. Actually, we are very passive in last premier games and scores with quite lucky goal only...
If this performances still continue even we are in middle, RK would also deserve to be sacked.

Exactly, it doesn't need to be one extreme or the other, we just look shell-shocked against the big 6. Having no shots on goal until 80 odd minutes is unacceptable no matter who you are.

Those travelling should be reimbursed because that team just did not even try to win,how mad is that when you think about it, they didn't even try to win, I can't understand those tactics.

I'm optimistic it will all click though but so far not very good performances.

Hmmm we'll see. I doubt he wont do well to be honest but if we have the same season as the last he may walk or golden hand shake out
