Ronald Koeman discussion

When we supposedly have money and he probably argued with Swansea over a fiver in the Gylfi transfer - yeah.

Nah, what I mean is, every club apart from City sets a budget. How does he know that Moshiri won't just stop sending cash our way? Or what if he shakes off this mortal coil and his estate decides that they do not want to keep financing a football club?

I'm a massive fan of Unsworth mate but I'm still not too sure he would be ready this season or next. Defensively I think he sets us up soundly but still not too sure if he would set us up any more adventurously than Koeman.

Certainly though once Koemans deal ends I'd hope he is in with a shout of the job.

I reckon he would mate.

There are some decent flair players in that Under 23s and its clear he lets them showcase the flair and attacking talent whilst still remaining solid.

Martinez couldnt organise a defence but we were really good attacking.
Koeman can organise a defence but we're utter dross at creating chances.

WHY CANT WE HAVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS FFS.

I don't at all take seriously the idea that Kenwright would act as a block to another signing if there was still money in the budget. Why would he under those circumstances?

There was either money available or there wasnt . Reason dictates that as we entered the final week of the window, we had to sell to buy. We didn't, so we didn't.

Its a side issue now anyway until January. Koeman must get on and make the best of it. Other teams also found the market difficult so we're in good company. We did need more signings but we did get quite a few anyway - to maintain our position at the very least.

Koeman himself isn't going anywhere - he and the rest of them have to get through this spell with hard work and using all of their collective experience. It would take a truly abominable run of results to threaten his job.

I will say though that some of his more negative personality traits do him no favours at times like this - my own reading of him from afar is that he may not be an easy guy to get on with. Overt bluntness doesn't help there and nor does his very static nature on the touchline - I like managers who live every moment with the team and show passion.

Our fitness is in question too - very poor from Williams to come back in pre-season with a gut and to me Jags looks overweight as well. We can't carry either of those two anymore.

*three transfer windows

Also, are we honestly criticising someone for 'watching the budget'???

Think the problem is mate that for some reason a lot of lads thought Moshiri was going to come in and start spending his own millions on transfers, when in all reality the money spent comes from the tv deal, the Lukaku money etc, and obviously then the club has to cut their coat according to their cloth so to speak.

Exactly. There was no mythical £100m spend, or a mad drive for the League title, or the 'greatest stadium in the country'.

We're a vehicle for a hugggggggggggge Liverpool investment project that Moshiri and co will profit from to the tune of billions in the next few years. Only this one is a bit more palatable than when we were being used as a trojan horse for a massive retail park in Kirkby.

Don't know how accurate was Barton's info but not surprised if this is true. Cheers Bill.

“I think Koeman was trying to get in another striker, and if it had been down to him he would have,” Barton told talkSPORT. “They wanted and identified targets to try to bring in.

“I think the issue was Kenwright, from what I gather. He’s still the custodian in terms of being chairman.

Koeman and [Farhad] Moshiri thought they would have money to spend but Kenwright was wanting to watch the budget, and didn’t want to over-spend.”

Errr, £142m this summer.

5) Failure to replace Lukaku all too apparent for Everton

Ten of Ronald Koeman’s signings started and this time they mustered one spurious attempt on goal to follow up the zero they managed at Chelsea in the previous defeat. The manager’s apologists claim the team need time to gel but the fact is fans are struggling to see what if any system the Dutchman is trying to employ, on the pitch and in the transfer market. On Saturday his one-paced side were set up with two defensive midfielders and all three of the No10s he signed in the summer shoehorned behind a 22-year-old Spaniard, Sandro Ramírez, with two league games behind him and who was replaced at half-time by another youth prospect, Dominic Calvert-Lewin. It was clear as long ago as February that Romelu Lukaku would be leaving and the manager’s failure to sign an adequate replacement is a case bordering on gross negligence. Mark Tallentire

I can't remember our one shot on goal.

I think the time to have a good look at what Koeman is doing with his signings are the games after the united game. Then we can assess what he did up to the united game including the European games and how we are doing against teams that didn't finish in the top 6. In Europe we have had a fairly good start getting to the group stages but in the league it has been a bit iffy.
