Ronald Koeman discussion

I never particularly wanted Koeman either but he's here now and did well last year to get us out of the Martinez malaise. Unsworth could come in and be revelation but he could easily be a complete disaster.

Stick with Koeman for the time being. Let him solve the problems (and there are many of them).
Is he skilled enough to solve the problems, ATM he reminds me of Martinez and had no idea how to get out of the rut. Moyes always did manage that, he wasn't the greatest manager but he could set up a defence the ladt 2 can't seem to do that.

I do think we are in a better place to attract then when El Fraudio left, better squad, owner willing to spend, lets not rule out a good named manager just yet.
Also all is not lost on this season but if this rot carries on another month we could be out of the 2 cups and looking lime a long shot for the Magnificent Seventh

Not convinced by that. Maybe I'll change my mind when the new lads have settled in but give me Lukaku, Barkley and Stones above whatever we've got now. Of the players we have now, none of the top 6 would be interested in them.

Even had we got Giroud, which is seen as the final piece we missed in the summer, do you think 4th would have been obtainable? I don't. I don't think 140m gets anywhere near when you consider the years of spending at those clubs above us.
That money was never meant to have us competing. It was meant to bridge the gap. All Moshiri wants this season is 6th. Hardly reeks of a chairman thinking his investment has even touched the sides.

Yearh the gap above is getting bigger and bigger even with us spending we are light years away from them sadly

Spurs?

Haven't spent half as much as us yet are doing better. Their recruitment has been excellent - especially the defensive side.

I think Koeman has been through rough patches in the past - he even had one last year and managed to pull the squad through them. I do think he has absolutely no idea about what team/system to play. Would you though? Would any manager?

We went through a similar sequence last year and finished about 10 points ahead of 8th.
I think we will finish 7th this season. Which is about right.
Finish 7th is about right

but we should be finishing 7th with a concerted challenging on the teams above us

Failure would be finishing 7th without the above and being in a dog fight with other clubs to get that 7th place

Probably not this season no.But i was hoping that we could close the gap between ourselves and the elite sides. At the moment that gap seems to have widened.I think really though we need to accept that Koeman is here until his contract expires at the very least.Things are bleak at the moment but hopefully it will turn around, and hopefully in a few months all of us looking for Koemans head, will look like a bunch of very silly buggers.lol

We are so far away from the top 4 it is hilarious that people thought we'd be mounting a challenge this season. Just look around our squad, it's littered with decent players who would struggle to get on the bench for any of the top 6 sides.

If you want to be up there with the best teams then you need the best players. Sanchez, Coutinho, Pogba, Hazard, Kane, Aguero... You could go on and on naming players. These teams have them in abundance, us? We sell Lukaku.

Continuity.
They've signed 2 Belgian's for their defence, both of which have played with their keeper, the French number 1, for years now.
How long has Trippier been there, learning his trade under the manager? They've invested in youth, like Alli and Dier and moulded them.
They are at least 3 years ahead of us.

No mate. But I cannot see how any would this season. Or next.
Some make it sound like a manager is a miracle worker. The gap between us and those who finished above us last season, in relation to their spending and continuity of team selection / core, is not going to be mended by one big transfer window. What 140m has done is injected some better players, particularly in Keane and Pickford, who will help us over the next 3 years.
Winning the FA Cup, for example, for us comes down to whether we draw Chelsea, City, Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool or Spurs away (or even at home). If we do, we are unlikely to get through. Because simply, their squads are current either better in terms of quality and / or continuity.
We need some perspective. This isn't the 80s. This isn't even the 90s or 00s when 140m in a summer meant something.
Every time you pot a manager you start again. I don't think that will do anything other than delay our progression.

But why do you want to progress with a manager you don't think can win us anything?

You are right that it's a pain having to start again, but if most can agree now that he wasn't a very ambitious appointment to begin with and he is very unlikely to achieve success here....then why wait to get rid?

The mistakes been made. Fix it, and move on.
