BBC SPORT | Football | Rooney agent accepts lengthy ban

Paul Stretford will begin a nine-month ban from football agent activity on Monday after abandoning legal action against the Football Association.
In 2008 he was fined £300,000 and banned for 18 months after being found guilty of seven charges over how he came to represent client Wayne Rooney.
"We have received notification from him that he has withdrawn his arbitration claim, " said an FA statement.
"He will be suspended from all agency activity for nine months from 4 May."
In July 2008 Stretford was found guilty of seven out of nine counts he was facing, relating to how he acquired the right to represent the Manchester United striker, and making false and/or misleading statements to police and in court.
At the time, Stretford described the verdict of the independent commission as "a travesty" and vowed to appeal, with the ban - half of which was suspended - not coming into force until any appeal had been heard.
In December 2008 his appeal was rejected, and he decided to go to arbitration, delaying the ban once again.

Anyone who feels Rooney left Everton of his own accord have less brain cells than Rooney himself. Sorry but only his agents influence turned Rooney from a blue Scouser to a Red Manc.

To answer the question, I think that there was a better than average chance that Rooney would have still been with us or at least a little while longer had Stretford not become his agent.

We all knew that the minute he started to represent him, his sole goal was to engineer a big money move away from Goodison Park for Rooney and get a hefty cut of the transfer fee.

Yes, Rooney had to make the ultimate decision but I believe his agent put him in a position much sooner than necessary to make that decision.

Stretford is scum, pure and simple.

I don't know if the agent who previously represented Rooney got any type of damages awarded to him but that guy got screwed.

Funny old world. There's that fcuking rat Stretford banned (rightly) from being an agent. Reviled for his actions. Then there's *King Kenny*, the snide [Poor language removed] who helped Stretford out and used his influence to grease the wheels of the Rooney move so he could benefit ProActive - the company he had shares in. *King Kenny* - salt of the earth social justice and charidee campaigner - touted for a new Bobby Charlton type amabassadorial role at Anfield.

the lad may have stayed at goodison for another season or so, but i'm sure that big money move was only a matter of time in coming, most people (blues) seemed to be of that opinion at the time. i think the real tragedy of the whole affair was the way in which it was felt necessary to sour relations between rooney & ordinary evertonians as part of the manipulative tactics employed to engineer the transfer, all totally unwarranted.
