will improve no end with a better manager.
Really hope so but his physicality this season worries me - his stamina is poor and just his movement around the pitch doesn't look right. He seems like a motivated lad so I don't think you can put this down to Gibsonitis - ie being a fat lazy slob. Maybe too much time on the weights, or he's the type who needs a beasting in training to get properly fit. Don't know but the end result is not looking good.

What we are seeing with Barkley, similarly to Stones, is the product of 3 years of almost no defensive coaching whatsoever.

Barkley is atrocious off the ball. I've never seen a defender able to catch him when he's sprinting with the ball at his feet, but how often does he use that explosion going the other way? The manager does not demand that he tracks back, that he sticks to his man on set pieces, that he presses opposition or that he makes tackles and cynical fouls when needed. Barkley is asked to conserve his energy and spearhead our counter attacks, something he has done well this season.

I always think back to that Norwich game, where he scored his first goal. He was flying into tackles, battling to win the ball, and was outstanding driving forward. I don't understand the logic in coaching that combative style out of him.

Credit to Martinez for giving him as much game time as he has but i'm far more excited to see what a better manager will get out of him. Barkley is one of the best talents we have ever produced and i'm sure whoever comes in will be looking to build his squad around him. I can't wait.

I'm convinced that this is it. His strength to hold players off is definitely a useful characteristic of his, but it cannot come at the expense of agility and pace.

Doesn't help like that he is seemingly told not to close down. Don't think he'd be half bad at it really, if he were actually doing it.

Dont think he is carrying excess fat at all but theres no denying that he's filled out so much, maybe too much. It doesnt seem to be affecting his overall fitness in terms of distance covered but every little short burst of energy he uses to go on one of his forward runs has him blowing and takes him 5 minutes to recover. Maybe some fitness expert can explain.

no expert but my guess is 4 hours of tippy tappy, and 0 hours of beasting at finch farm sessions.

Moyes has said he was the nearest he had ever seen to Bryan Robson, box to box tackling for fun. Well that was well and truly coached out of him. Part of it may have been down to him being worried about tackling too much after his bad injuries.

And his idea was to send to him to Leeds as a right midfielder !?!

Anything that comes out of that idiots mouth can be ignored.

Yeah

If Moyes had never left, Ross would have never had the sustained run in the first team that he's had under Martinez

Moyes just never had faith in him

Gave him some starts, yelled at him for losing the ball too much and wouldn't even stick him on the bench for some of games in the 12/13 run in

I'll await for the usual dissentors to say I'm wrong, but I know I'm right and deep down so do they

Pics going round of him & Stones at the Etihad last night
