Sack Sky and donate to GOT...donations are needed
We in England celebrate our national saints day next week, although most will not realise the date or the name. Is there a need for this celebration after all is said and done St George was apparently some obscure Turkish prince who's legend was brought to these shores by crusaders.

If we do need a national day to celebrate our Englishness would it be more appropriate, considering our history as a warrior nation, that we adopt a famous battle, preferably one when we stuffed the French (there are so many take your pick but think of the summer months). The Irish, Welsh and Scots all have national days so why not us but lets have one with meaning.

What do you think?

Bloody hell i didn't know that, i suppose you could all go out for a Kebab ;)   :P

I like St georges Day. it is the day I can speak to nearly any nation and remind them that we exploited them for centuries to create the British empire. and I cant get into trouble as it is a celebration of history. I love blinkered ignorance.

I dont have to be accurate, as long as I can be as smug as every other [Poor language removed] that celebrates their national day in my country.

On a slightly related tangent. Has anyone seen this new £2 coin to mark the end point of slavery? Why don't we ever celebrate good things, material things like discovering electricity, sanitisation etc
I dunno, it is a just occasion, I just think that a coin is a bit odd.

Ich, I found the entire apology thing embarrassing. We, as a people, have been exploited by the rich and powerful in this country for centuries, never seen the House of Lords isssue any apology for slavery and serfdom of the massess. To me it was a ponced up act by a pc mad wonder boy for the sake of reflected glory, it sucked.

Why don't we celebrate the beheading of Charles 1, we maim people year on year by exploding rockets and bombs, setting fire to animal hide aways, call it Guy Fawkes, he was hero, tried to blow up parliament, whats wrong with that?:P
