Anyone know of a cheap way to sand a floor?

No Karate Kid jokes please.

I have some old wood floor in my office and it's the original floor boards from the house. I want to sand them down, and bring back some authenticity to the house.

I'm not sure there is a cheap way, but best way is to hire an industrial sander - when neighbours are out - makes hell of a racket apparently! And keep the sawdust to fill in the gaps, mixed with glue, some bloke on the internet says anyway.

Get an old pair of trabs, superglue some sandpaper on the bottom of them and then put on your favourite disco dancing tunes, like Whitesnake.

After a week, replace the sandpaper with wet and dry for a smooth finish.

just varnish over whats there for an "antique" effect.

otherwise do what chico said but practice moonwalking.

you could take them all up and turn them over as they wont be worn underneath, bit like turnin' your undies inside out in desperate times.

Interesting, do you have a link?

I was gonna come and meet yerz all on Sunday but I think I'll give it a miss now .

Seriously, you need a thing shaped a bit like a lawnmower but with a sanding belt where the blades would be. I've done this job and it makes 1) a hell of a racket and 2) a lot of dust. So cover the furniture and anything else that you want to keep dust free (wife, mistress, children...). Oh and get yourself a dustmask

It's messy but the floorboards in our bedroom look great. Here's a link: http://www.hss.com/g/5412/Floor-Sander-240v.html?gclid=CMigip2NjJkCFRIgZwodqnKQmg that's to a hire company - not our bedroom....
