2024/25 Sean Dyche

He’s done Nothing yet and that’s the point - the others have had numerous chances to play and continually turn out shocking performances.

Why should not having any experience be such a blocker to playing first team football?

Our options are limited with injuries and poor recruitment - Dixon is an option but you wouldn’t look at for the first team just because he’s inexperienced and lacking , yet will select known atrocious footballers instead? Bizarre.

Until Coleman or Patterson are fit, or we go and sign a rb, Dixon should get a chance.
The flip argument to this...

Dyche sees Young, Holgate and Dixon in training. If you were him and you could see day in, day out that Holgate and Young are better than Dixon, why would we expect him to pick Dixon?

In fact, if that were the case, I'd be livid at him for doing that just to appease the fan base.

You said he deserved a chance. Based on what? I'm not even doubting the kid, but saying he deserves a shot means he's done something to earn that. He hasn't, or he likely would have been in the squad this past week.

It's not just because he's inexperienced, if he was good enough right this second he would be playing.

I understand I'm going against the grain here, but it's just nonsense to expect this kid to do any better at Tottenham who scored 74 goals last season.

No one is holding him back. Dyche will act in self interest, if he feels he can do the job he'll play him. It's more likely we'll see a back three this weekend.

"All he needs is a chance" is a false premise, and a tiring one at that. We've seen countless times evidence of this, yet it still persists.

So is "he can't be any worse than x." Based on what?
It's really nothing to do about him deserving a chance, I wasn't calling for him to play last week as we had the lumbering Young fit. Young is now out, so we are facing the choice (if we do play with a right back) of playing the woeful Holegate out of position or giving the place to a professional right back we have on our books. It doesn't make sense not to play him. We will have subs on the bench should the lad freeze but i think he'd be raring to grab this chance.

Dyche also sees Michael Keane in training and for the 3rd season running has tried to shoe horn him into the team

Again I think it's more likely we play with a back three than Holgate playing. We have a week to work on it in training.

Great counter point TBF. My gripe with Dyche currently is about the new players rather than Dixon, but you could theoretically extend this to Dixon (with less justification).

My gripe with Dyche surrounds the team he picked on Saturday and leaving out O'Brien, Lindstrom and N'Diaye - all signed to address issues within the squad, all players Dyche signed off on signing - and picking players who we know have limitations (otherwise we wouldn't have signed the new ones) and benching all the new ones barring the young lad from Villa who'd have been on the bench if Garner was fit. That's where I have a beef. He signed off on these players and didn't pick any of them and yet we should be surprised when the issues of last season were apparent on Saturday too.

Dixon is a kid who came through the system that Dyche has never had any input into signing. I have less of an issue with him preferring what he already has at his disposal in that context.

Its up to you what you do I'd rather not get the pitchforks out at all if I can help it but i'm not judging you. There was context to what I was saying which you've totally missed or ignored which is exactly the same as about 10 other replies i've had on different posts over the last 2 days because everyones in pitchfork mode and just raging about stuff that doesn't even say what they think it says. My point was about people saying Dyche will never play O'Brien becuase he didn't pick him in ONE game which is totally irrational it was not a comment about our performance as a team and so the result against Spurs has got nothing to do with it. We're probably going to lose something like 14-18 games this season thats just the truth I don't like it but its the reality we're dealing with so I don't see the point in losing my head every single time it happens because thats not healthy but like I said i'm not judging.
You're quite right, Dyche will play O'Brien eventually, when he has little alternative, as was the case with Branthwaite, Keane needs to be either injured, or, have another performance as bàd as Villa last season, if that's even possible, before O'Brien gets a chance. When it happens, let's hope he is like Branthwaite, in as much as he plays well enough to deter Dyche from picking Keane ahead of him again.

I had no issues with him not starting Ndiaye and Lindstrom; but at half time when we were creating nothing and Mcneil, Harrison and Doucoure were having no impact then a change should have been made on the 50 minute mark. The Keane decision was not a surprise for me, 3rd season running he's tried to get him in this team - any given opportunity and he'll be in

With regards to Dixon, he should have least been on the bench seeing as we had one right back and Mason Holgate. And personally, i'd go for the unknown over the known

The way the team is currently constructed, it is crying out for a back 3. It is understandable that some managers are not comfortable playing that formation as it is a very different shape and style. As somebody pointed out, Kev is building the team with the assumption that Dyche is a stopgap coach and it all looks a complete mess. The sooner Mosh is out and we can clean house the better.

Who looked better or at least competent in preseason? Even if Dixon can't do anything more than run faster and defend 1v1, that's improvement on Ash.

The only thing people want is for Dyche to stop persisting with garbage we already know doesn't work. Take a risk from time to time...
