In no world did it make sense for a 4/5th choice centre back to have that much money spent on them.

Especially when goals have been the problem.

Even Gnonto is a workhorse instead of a proper creative player.

It absolutely did make sense. The whole cornerstone of our defensive structure that led us to having the fourth best defensive record in the entire league last year, was missing. Neither of the centre backs played any meaningful minutes in pre-season and neither started the season fit. You’re judging the decision to bring in another centre half with hindsight because the manager has refused to play the player brought in. But it absolutely made sense at the time to switch from an attacking player, to a centre half due to the injury situation to the starting centre halves.
