Security Services and Internet Monitoring

So police and security services want more powers to see all our emails, IMs and internet usage.

My understanding is that they want to automatically log times and dates of all emails/messages sent along with recipients. They would need a court issued warrant to to see the content of the email.

All internet usage would also be stored but again a warrant would be needed to view it. I haven't seen if this would just apply to terrorism investigations or any crime.

Is this level of intrusion justified in light of the assistance it could give in preventing acts of terrorism or child abuse or bringing to justice those responsible?

The internet was created to bring the world together. It's kind of done that but also made the whole world able to argue with each other. Possible not quite what the creators envisioned.

Now governments are trying to police the Internet when in reality it has been out of control for a long long time....

Apparently all txt messages are saved by the government, and I know the US congress is saving EVERY tweet sent.

The government already monitor most of the Internet, this is lip service to those that want to be a freedom activist.


There are back doors to Facebook, twitter and BBM. iMessage soon too, I'd like to see the encryption method used for iMessage protocol.

Silly idea. What next, someone in every pub making notes? There are plenty of idiots on the internet. There have always been idiots on the bus as well. Eventually we'll all be wearing tags to record our thoughts and 'they' will still not be happy.

As said already they can access enough stuff online already.

I accept you can have views on immigration with out being racist, but this has nothing to do with this thread. Increased immigration doesn't mean they're all terrorists or criminals looking to take over the country by using the internet to execute their heinous plans *insert humour*

If the government stick to terrorism and pedophilia I personally have no problem with it. I'm neither of these categories, and both of these types of people are so scarily sick in the head that I'd rather be safe, and have children be as safe as possible, so I'm actually all for it. Mind you the latter being useless until they strengthen the laws, and have bigger more appropriate sentences for those sickos

I understand that, which is why I started off by making it clear that I didn't think you were being racist etc. I get what you are saying, but i don't think the increased powers are centred on low level criminal activity. Now if you're linking immigration with increased levels of child abuse, then I see your point. But you'll never stop immigration, we're part of the EU. As a nation we voted for it, personally I didn't, but that's another argument. With being part of the EU and previously the commonwealth, you have to accept higher levels of immigration. You can't have your cake and eat it etc.
