What has actually gone wrong with the team in regards to set pieces?

Today everytime Villa had a set piece, even from a long free kick I'm there absolutely bricking it thinking it's going in.
Then low and behold we concede to a corner.
We can't defend or manage them at all.

Then with regards to attacking set pieces I just don't have any confidence that any of our corners or free kicks will do anything positive.
All our free kicks today we're awful and our corners were very meh

The last few years I feel we have just gotten worse and worse at dealing with them, attacking or defending.

What has caused this?
Selling our creative players?
Refusing to move with the times and get a set piece coach?
Or just not enough desire and coordination to win the balls?

I honestly hate any set piece we are involved in these days.

We should be putting more emphasis on fixing this issue as it's clearly deciding games for us
 
It’s killing us - watford equaliser, brighton the other week, today. Don’t recall villa doing anything today and they’ve taken the 3 pts. I thought we’d be ok once calvert lewin and mina returned but obviously not

Same, I thought getting the two tall fellas back would help a bit.
But the organisation defending and attacking despite their presence just holds us back

A decent keeper would help. A gimp in goal afraid to challenge for a high ball is a big problem.
 
We gave away James, sold Digne and Gylfi.. well.

And then threw Davide Ancelotti’s good work in the bin.

It’s 95% on Benitez.

Do you think he had that much of an impact?

I felt we were definitely more tight defensively with the ancelottis with us. But I thought that was a result of just being better in defence overall as opposed to one mans influence?
I still wasn't very confident on the attack though

Or do you think Davide had alot of influence on the set pieces?

Its a shame as I feel he has done really well most of the season.
But yes he does need to be better coming out for those high balls.
Personally I felt it was him coming out for it that caused the goal if he stayed on the far post he would have been okay.

Andros could have done better there to considering he was the man on the far post. His feet barely left the ground
 

Not only can we not defend them, we’re not great attacking them either.

Luca Digne hasn’t managed to get a corner past the front post in 2 seasons & he didn’t yesterday. But while we played statues (as we do) a Villa player player came short & nodded it on. It was almost like they’d practiced it in training or something. Bonkers, I know!
