Reidy's Bottle Of Grecian
The Unobstructed View
As most will know by now, we will face this team in the 1st of our Europa League ties. Being someone who travelled the globe for 7 years i am an advocator of independent travel and believe it can almost always be done on a budget. So i've decided to dig out some details to basically save you having to type it into google.
to wet your appetite i'll start with their fans
YouTube - Sigma Olomouc fans
a nice bit of eurorock there to tantalise the tastebuds, you just know the look that goes with a taste in music like that, i'm seeing a city of Paul Calfs
Olomouc itself is situated in moravia and has a population of 110,000, so quite small really, the city itself looks quite nice.
wiki says..
Despite its considerable charms, Olomouc has not been discovered by tourists in the same way that Prague, Český Krumlov and Karlovy Vary have. Its inner city is the second-largest historical monuments preserve in the country, after Prague.
which probably means that you wont get ripped off by the locals as they will be glad of the custom.
the nearest airports are
Brno –Tuřany Airport (70 km)
Ostrava –Mošnov Airport (Ostrava Leoš Janáček Airport)(80 km)
all other airports are over 250 km away but it does say it is an important railway junction and from quite a lot of airports you can take a train. from prague there are 6 modern trains per day that take 2hrs 20 mins.
on the ale side of things there are some irish bars and the nightclubs have some interesting names
Žlutá vila
being but one of the 6 listed that appear to be knockin' shops.
most hotels seem to be around the 3 star mark but there are some 2 & 4 star ones as well. a twin room at a 4* is about 3,300 czk which is about £112, but i have seen a very budget room (~ a single economist) for 690czk - £22.
on the grub front, the crack irish pub has a pair of nepalese chefs who seem to just do pork curries looking at the website.
the city it says has lots of fountains so you just know whats gonna happen there.
all in all it doesnt look a bad place to spend a couple of days at all, although with the nearest airport 80 km away, not the simplest of journeys.
