Just the term "elite clubs" is a disgrace in itself. Every single club should be treated the same. Either you qualify, or you don't. That would a huge nail in the coffin if clubs are given a backdoor entrance just for being who they are.

Exactly. I’d rather let Dean Smith and his barmy Aston Villa army have the prestige of being leathered in that utterly crap competition, which inevitably impedes league performance for clubs like our’s.

Hopefully it would contribute to Villa going down, but then again, I can remember people telling me how wonderful it was to have Aston Villa back in the league because getting battered at Aston Villa is what football is all about.
