Hi all

Secondary to my love of Everton is my love of Queen.

This band, like them or not, made their name in Liverpool and Cornwall, even going so far as to holding all fan club conventions in Southport. While London based, they never forgot the places that made them and Merseyside is one of them.

Freddie Mercury lived in the Dovedale Towers on Penny Lane, and indeed all Queen members met in clubs on Hardman Street.

Brian May, now Doctor Sir Brian May, is a working class lad just like us and was for a while the chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.

Simply, I think a tribute to this honorary scouser and his honorary scouse band, in context of this website, must be this song;

I can still see a ten year old me jumping up and down opening up Queens Greatest Hits on Cassette Tape on Christmas, beginning a life long love affair with fat bottomed girls, marvelling at how a killler Queen could be dynamite with a laser beam and realising even grown ups just really wanted to ride their bicycles too.

The sound that man could get from a guitar still amazes me to this day.

I nursed a close member of his family when I was in London. Never met Brian but he was on the phone every day to the family member and the everyone I dealt with in the family were lovely.



I've loved Queen since I was a kid so it was nice to be able to help his family.

Love Queen, but not a fan of the bizarre half tribute act they’ve turned into since Freddie’s death.

May seems a decent sort though as a person.

None of them went to Oxford or Cambridge, thought they all met in London, Freddie and Roger had a market stall iirc

Sun City is indefensible though.

Not a fan of him or queens music but a certain amount of respect has to be shown for someone willing to rock that haircut in 2022 or quite frankly any decade post 1980s.

I had my first go at karaoke on boxing day at the age of 61. If I say so myself, my rendition of 'fat bottomed girls' was a fitting tribute.

Not a huge fan and my most abiding memory was May appearing on Swap Shop looking for old sixpences which he used for plectrums.

First band I ever saw back in 1977 at the Empire.
I was fascinated by the fact that May and his dad built his guitar from scratch and tried to do the same in woodwork classes at school.

I first saw them at the Liverpool Stadium in 1973, they were the support act to Mott the Hoople. They were great,
I loved their early stuff but hated the later commercial stuff after a night at the opera.
