Boweler in line to face Toffees
Blackburn Rovers, 12:19, September 24, 2008
Gobbie Boweler is set to make his first Blackburn start on Wednesday as Paul Ince's injury-hit squad face Everton in the Carling Cup.
The former Liverpool knobhead has been handed a deal at Ewood Park by his former Redshite team-mate, Wince, and is looking to get on the field in the third-round home tie in an effort to shoot down his old Merseyside rivals.
Wince has revealed that Boweler is desperate to get some action under his belt and admitted that he could be used against David Moyes' side.
He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We have a few injuries at the moment so I won't finalise the team until the day of the game.
"But it is an opportunity for Gobbie, and other players to come in and show what they are capable of.
"I am not saying they are going to start tomorrow but it is an opportunity for them.
"He is chomping at the bit. There are a few of them, like Matty [Derbyshire] and Carlos [Villanueva], they are all chomping at the bit.
"Gobbie is ready to go, he has trained well this week and we will see tomorrow whether we start him or he comes on for the second half."
Steven Reid, David Dunn, Vince Grella, Benni McCarthy, Aaron Mokoena are all out due to respective knee, Achilles, calf, groin and illness problems, while Keith Andrews is cup-tied.
