Southgate gone West

Does anyone else think this is a little harsh? I mean, they are only a point off top spot. When Boro got relegated Gibson said Southgate would be staying to get them back into the Prem and yet he gets the sack in October with the club in a good position? Makes no sense.

Very harsh, especially when they won last night and they've sold most of their best players without getting anyone in.

He gets sacked for being in the top end of the table, so how Roy Keane is still at Ipswich I dont know.

Anyway, they'll be a post available at a certain Red club in a couple of weeks. He'll be a shoe in.

He's gutted...as you can probably see.

This sounds more like 'some one has become available' or he's had a row with Gibson. Got to say it though, he is one boring fart, Tranmere Rovers next for Gareth

I thought this was well harsh; glad to see Strachan back in management in England though

Let's face it.
They sold his best players on him, and left him to make do in a very competetive league.
He then makes headways to getting back up, and the boot is thrown in.
More than a little harsh in my opinion.

What makes me amazed more than anything is that clubs often give the new manager spending money. (n)

Strachen, poisonous little snide

I think he's an OK guy (much more likeable than an a-hole like Strachan) and I have a bit of a soft spot for Steve Gibson and Boro.

However Southgate's track record of signings/sellings were dreadful and he should have been fired midseason last year as even with his horrid deals that team had enough talent to stay up last year. Didn't resign Boateng and then sold Cattermole cheap leaving them w/o a defensive midfielder, exchanged Yak AND 2M for Alves. Now I know Alves was hot [Poor language removed] in Holland and seemed like he could be a 15-20 goal scorer in the prem but he was also lazy and fat in the Dutch league. A manager like Moyes would have taken him on a loan/1st dibs on signing him deal like we did for Peanut. Southgate bet his whole management career on a fat lazy Brasilian who never had any prem expereince.

He didn't keep Swartzer and also didn't bring in a solid veteran backup if/when Jones failed (and he failed spectularly). Signed garbage like Huth and Aldearie and stuck with Alidare and Alves up front when everybody could see they weren't cutting it. Downing was a better player under McClaren. He also brought in some Charlton rejects like Ewell and threw them in the starting lineup.

Now most/all the good players the academy produced are gone (only Wheater is left?) and it wasn't like they had cant refuse offers for those players. It would be like Moyes getting rid of all our up and coming academy players like Rodwell etal so we'd have an extra 8-10M to spend.

Despite being close to the top the fans had already abandoned Southgate and were staying away in droves (though I guess you could make the arguement that if a Boro stadium is 1/3 full then nothing has really changed since they were in the prem).

Were all the transfer decisions Southgates though?
