Indeed. That is the first difficult qualifying group England have had for a very long time. North Macedonia - who have beaten both the Germans and Italians in the World Cup - are in there too. The Italians will ensure that this is no procession for England, so the ingredients are definitely there for trouble. As I said in the WC section, happy for him to stay on for a 4th tournament, but he needs to get off to a good start to the qualifiers in March against Italy and Ukraine
He isn't going to change, the FA love him because he literally doesn't make any tough calls.Fine if he stays but he needs to make some tough calls imo. The team needs to evolve a bit and he needs to stop picking his favourites all the time and just play the best players we have in the best setup.
His in game management is rubbish. He’s a top bloke and I’m sure he’d be a great counsellor but he’s not an elite manager.
He should be thanked for his efforts and sent on his way.
I think Howe has already shown himself to be a better club manager than Southgate ever was, and could be a better option at international level given the quality of the England squad. Southgate is loyal to his senior players even when they are clearly out of form.Sad to say, but there ain't any other Englishman around good enough
