Southgate to remain England manager (For a While)

Fine if he stays but he needs to make some tough calls imo. The team needs to evolve a bit and he needs to stop picking his favourites all the time and just play the best players we have in the best setup.

As I said in the WC section, happy for him to stay on for a 4th tournament, but he needs to get off to a good start to the qualifiers in March against Italy and Ukraine

Indeed. That is the first difficult qualifying group England have had for a very long time. North Macedonia - who have beaten both the Germans and Italians in the World Cup - are in there too. The Italians will ensure that this is no procession for England, so the ingredients are definitely there for trouble.

He isn't going to change, the FA love him because he literally doesn't make any tough calls.

He will continue picking his favourites, he brought on Sterling and Mount vs France, 2 of his favourite players, he had a in form Rashford on the bench who only got 2 mins and Grealish who is very good vs tiring sides who got 30 seconds.

His in game management is rubbish. He’s a top bloke and I’m sure he’d be a great counsellor but he’s not an elite manager.

He should be thanked for his efforts and sent on his way.

I think he’s one of the worst managers currently employed in football. Picking a starting XI of players better than the opposition from England’s options is not management, and he can’t even get that right sometimes.

Sad to say, but there ain't any other Englishman around good enough :blush:
I think Howe has already shown himself to be a better club manager than Southgate ever was, and could be a better option at international level given the quality of the England squad. Southgate is loyal to his senior players even when they are clearly out of form.

Putting Sterling on when he’d just come back after his house being burgled and family threatened at knifepoint was a new low in his catalogue of managerial incompetence, it basically put us down to 10 men. Especially when you consider he replaced Saka who was England’s biggest thread and Rashford was made to sit there watching on. Just completely dreadful management.
