At Uni, I am studying Sports coaching and have been assigned the task of designing a sport development programme aimed at participation level (youngsters) within the north west. If you guys dont's mind sparing a little time, as part of my market research I need the following questions answered. (y)

1. Why do youngsters participate in sport?

2. More importantly, why do youngsters not participate in sport?

3. As a client, what would you/your child expect to acheive/take away from attending a local sports club?

4. What kind of sport would you/your child prefer to participate in?

5. If you/your child had to pay small subscription fee each week, would you/your child still attend?

6. How far would you/your child be prepared to travel to attend such a club?

7. You are the parent of a child taking part/teaching at the school where the club takes place. Would you consider volunteering to help the running of the club?

Cheers

1. Why do youngsters participate in sport?

To have fun. To interact with their peers, not just on the field/court but socially as well. Learn teamwork. Learn a sport. Exercise.

2. More importantly, why do youngsters not participate in sport?

Can't afford it. No desire or inclination. Scared of getting hurt.

3. As a client, what would you/your child expect to acheive/take away from attending a local sports club?

Learn how to play the sport properly including all rules and regulations of said sport. To become proficient in participation for his or her age group. To get regular exercise and the health benefits of that exercise.

4. What kind of sport would you/your child prefer to participate in?

Here in the USA, Soccer and Baseball. Possibly Golf.

5. If you/your child had to pay small subscription fee each week, would you/your child still attend?

Yes. I understand that there is a cost associated with sports participation (use of facilities, coaching staff, equipment, etc....)

6. How far would you/your child be prepared to travel to attend such a club?

Probably no more that ten to twenty miles.

7. You are the parent of a child taking part/teaching at the school where the club takes place. Would you consider volunteering to help the running of the club?

If time permitted, yes, I would consider volunteering to help kids learn a sport, exercise regularly, and most importantly, have fun.

1. Why do youngsters participate in sport?

I think mostly to have fun, then the older they get, because they enjoy the sport they are doing and wish to get better at it

2. More importantly, why do youngsters not participate in sport?

Some just dont running around, some dont like to interact, some just dont like the sports on offer i suppose

3. As a client, what would you/your child expect to acheive/take away from attending a local sports club?

Fun and some level of coaching

4. What kind of sport would you/your child prefer to participate in?

Every1 knows theres only 1 sport in the world, Football

5. If you/your child had to pay small subscription fee each week, would you/your child still attend?

If it was well run and it wasnt just a little scam, then yea sure

6. How far would you/your child be prepared to travel to attend such a club?

5-10 miles

7. You are the parent of a child taking part/teaching at the school where the club takes place. Would you consider volunteering to help the running of the club?

If they needed bodys and i could be useful, then yea sure.

1. Why do youngsters participate in sport? i would say that to begin with it would be due to encouragement from parents, then when they start to enjoy it (which isnt always straight away) then they want to do it themselves.

2. More importantly, why do youngsters not participate in sport? i would say because their parents dont, do anything themselves apart form sit on fat unhealthy arses letting them watch tv and play video games constantly.

3. As a client, what would you/your child expect to acheive/take away from attending a local sports club? if they were there to learn then i would hope they would do that, i would hope they would receive the same encouragement regardless of their ability. they will gain in confidence as part of a team or pursuing a solo activity if they improve and get the right encouragement.

4. What kind of sport would you/your child prefer to participate in? i am happy for my kids to participate in any sports they show an interest in, in my area rugby league is very popular, they are both rough and tumble merchants so should enjoy it. my daughter dances a lot so it could be argued that due to the physical exhertion required then it 's more of a sport than say darts. being good at darts could have the same effect confidence wise as well like.

5. If you/your child had to pay small subscription fee each week, would you/your child still attend? yes, all clubs /teams need some sort of subs to survive, even if a sponsor throws some money in then subs stop the kids from just not being arsed about the club/team as they are having to contribute.

6. How far would you/your child be prepared to travel to attend such a club? looking for a link of exact distance from g.p.
seriously, if they show an ability in some sports then you may have to travel, i have l'pool and m'chester equal distances away so i imagine that would be far enough. like with olivia's dancing though, if we have to travel then we have to travel, she is getting better with each competition so how can we hold her back ?

7. You are the parent of a child taking part/teaching at the school where the club takes place. Would you consider volunteering to help the running of the club? yes

1. Why do youngsters participate in sport?

For fun, to join in with peers, encouraged by parents.

2. More importantly, why do youngsters not participate in sport?

Not encouraged at home, fear of physical aspect of sport, does not have access to suitable kind of sport. For example my wife ran everywhere as a kid, could beat most other kids over any distance but did not have access to clubs (cost) and indivdual sports were discouraged at her school.

3. As a client, what would you/your child expect to acheive/take away from attending a local sports club?

Fun, friends, and a sense of achievement.

4. What kind of sport would you/your child prefer to participate in?

I would like them to try everything, and follow what they enjoy.

5. If you/your child had to pay small subscription fee each week, would you/your child still attend?

Yes.

6. How far would you/your child be prepared to travel to attend such a club?

In an ideal world walking distance, anything else depends on age and ability.

7. You are the parent of a child taking part/teaching at the school where the club takes place. Would you consider volunteering to help the running of the club?

Yes.

I hope this helps, good luck mate, Mike.
