Don't forget not every footballer like football and some see as just a job and have little interest in it. Perhaps Bale is one of those or has just fallen out of love with the game and is just happy to receive the money.

I was gobsmacked when I first heard this but i've spoken to a few ex pro's over the years and they all say the same that they all played with fellow pro's with that attitude.
David Batty was famous for this.

It's hard to hear about all the racism that's been directed at Son Heung-min over social media but this has become the norm at this point. The football culture in the UK needs a reform, or even a cultural reset. I follow the NBA/NFL and racism over social media is very rare on those sports, and even then, other British sports like cricket tennis or rugby have very little racism as well.

There needs to be more work in educating football fans in the UK, that's the only way we can crack down on this. Getting social media companies to look after this, is not curing the issue.

They should let Mourinho build. He’s the only winner at that club. It’s the same with Ancelotti here. Why would organisations who have won nothing for decades, hire a proven winner, then get rid of him after he hasn’t turned around decades of failure within 18 months. It’s crazy. The biggest asset at Spurs now is Mourinho and it’s the same with Ancelotti at Everton. Both sides would be well suited to keeping hold for as long as possible even if there’s some short term pain.

Totally agree.

Both Spurs and Everton need to have a big clean out of players this summer and back the managers with serious money.

I’m convinced there are a lot of right wing bots trying to normalise right wing thinking amongst football fans.
onviously fans can be bad,

There was a bit of debate on this further up the thread with @catcherintherye - one of the expected challanges of this summers transfer market is the challange of off loading players from "big clubs" - in short the amount of cash slushing around the bottom of the league will be dramatically reduced and off loading will be very very hard.

You wont see 20m spunked on the likes of Brewster again & it is going to be bloody hard to "move players on", especially given the salaries they are on

Mourinho is toxic and should be sacked any day now. People saying he should be backed. He was given 250 mill at Manure and took them backwards. His football is from the dark ages.

The man is done out here and Spurs was his last hurrah. A team with Son, Kane, N’Dombele and the like shouldn’t be sitting deep and playing negative football every single game.

People say same about Carlo but he’s got trash players here, Jose had world class players at Chelsea Manure and now Spurs. Look at how good Luke Shaw is now Jose left?

can’t stand the bloke blame everyone but himself.

Spurs have a few players that should be easy to shift...I could see Aurier, Sissoko and Lloris heading back to France this summer. Lo Celso and Lamela to Spain...

Moura and Alli could be in demand...

They actually have a fair few saleable assets imo....the issue i think is that Levy wants to price them out of reach.

Even with Spurs tight wage structure, Lo Celso and Lamela are going to be on wages the spanish clubs will struggle to match; same applies to Aurier, Sissoko and probably Lloris

Agreed and Moura and Alli; but if I was a new manager (assuming JM goes) I suspect you could get the Luke Shaw bounce out of both of them.

It is going to be very very hardly to do an 8 dross out, 4 / 5 quality in this summer, not just for Spurs, but Arsenal, Liverpool are going to try to do the same

I agree. The other angle on this is what if there is deflation to wages as well as fees?

Yes agree. Most of these clubs are going to be skint. For all the faults of the PL, the TV deal basically give a very decent payment to all clubs, which has not been hit by deflationary pressure in the way everything else will have been.

You also have to factor in, if you're a DOF for a Spanish team, not only are you skint, but you know Spurs are desperate. You throw a loan bid in, knowing very well it may have to be ccepted, as there's a good chance nobody else will bid.

Mourinho is finished as a top level manager and probably has been for 5/6 years. As was said above, he is toxic after a certain time. His treatment of Dele Alli just so he can flex his muscles is evidence of that. He should stick to punditry and adverts where he looks happy and healthy. As soon as he gets in the dugout he looks like he should be stood outside the William Gladstone blowing rollie smoke into peoples faces.

Ancelotti is completely different because he has a class about him, he isn't too arrogant to learn new things about the game and adapt where necessary.

not so sure, at least not in the short term -one reason for players to be protective of their current deals, knowing their current contract is probably their biggest.

Likewise, for those who move, they will want matching. I would imagine you will have selling club supplementing wages (either through haircut on fee or literally) with a big earner they are trying to get off their books.

Yes overall I sense wages will not fall in the way fees will, but it's an interesting idea isn't it? It will make it even harder to move people on, if players who have say ain intrinsic value of 80k per week, where given 120k per week in the good times, but that 80k drops 35% to say 55k per week. For lads on longer contracts it's going to make things really difficult.

Again its about parity with your peers and how that strokes egos. It's very hard to convince a player & the agent that comes with him that they are not worth parity with a player they are probably better than

Of course. But if there is less money in the game, and people can't pay wages, then those hard conversations can be had,

I mean in actuality you are right, it will just lead to selling clubs having to make up the difference more.
