As much as I dislike Son after his premeditated assault on Gomes (part of an ever growing list of poor 'sportsmanship'), no one should be abused due to their race. It's hard to hear about all the racism that's been directed at Son Heung-min over social media but this has become the norm at this point. The football culture in the UK needs a reform, or even a cultural reset. I follow the NBA/NFL and racism over social media is very rare on those sports, and even then, other British sports like cricket tennis or rugby have very little racism as well.
There needs to be more work in educating football fans in the UK, that's the only way we can crack down on this. Getting social media companies to look after this, is not curing the issue.
There's an undertone of racism that seems to be creeping into the mainstream more and more often. Football should not support it and neither should we. How do we make our point over this with social media? I can only see the option of leaving social media platforms that aren't actively trying to eradicate it from that platform. I'd also hope that football in general can come together to do the same en masse.
