Forwarding this little bit of information from another forum:

Hello,

We are StandUpSitDown, a campaign aiming to get safe standing areas at UK football grounds introduced.

This would have many benefits, both for those who like to sit and for those who would prefer to stand. (Category & forums listing - Stand Up Sit Down Forum...)

We are currently looking for more members to join our forum and back the campaign. We have just started a Facebook group to show the authorities how many people care about these issues. (Log In | Facebook...) If you are interested in the campaign then please join the facebook group.

If you are particularly interested and want to do more to help the campaign, please join us on our forum (Category & forums listing - Stand Up Sit Down Forum...). Aside from being useful for the campaign, the forum is also a place to hear other supporters views on fan culture and football in general, as well as generally fighting for fans' rights. The forum is also supported and co-ordinated by the FSF.

Thank You,

SUSD

Don't think we'l ever see a return to standing. Not sure whether i am in favor of it or not

Why can't people do things sitting down that they can do standing up?
Sing, cheer, clap, shout, boo etc can all be done sitting so why do peeps want to stand?
The only thing I can think of is that the prehistoric neanderthal tribe like instincts of many at matches are tamed when seated, and it's that which I'm glad is being stamped out.

I'm amused that so many fans are opposed to standing over there. It's the opposite here; those that sit are largely ridiculed by the supporters, being called "lazy" and whatnot.

I don't really take an activist position on either side here.

I will say that our local stadium has a policy (well, "unwritten law" is a better descriptor) that the lower-level seats, the "100's" section is standing-allowed. If you're in the upper deck, 200's, you are expected to only stand "when necessary" - which works out to corners and any offensive activity within the 18.

Interesting dynamic. Never seen this problem before in any other sport, to be honest.

I think standing promotes awareness to your surroundings. You sing more when standing, you dance more when standing, and you are more alert whilst standing.

I think it will heighten the atmosphere.

Not going to happen though.
