That is the stance of a man who is like a coiled spring, ready to pounce on the unfound future superstars of world football. #Believe.

:drunk:

why should we worry about resale value? we're not aiming to be liverpool constantly flogging our best players. We want to look for success and the quickest way getting there is buying players in their peak.

... it's just a lot of them haven't come off. It happens, bigger names have flopped in the prem.
Buying young gives you the option of buying players and still getting most of your money back if it doesn't work out.
If the money was there to buy players at their peak go world class. 2 players 70m a piece make a statement to the rest of the world someone like icardi from inter or timo Werner who is still young aswell

No offense mate but that is a pretty poor excusing of the shambolic transfer "system". Bar Klassen, every player we bought (and paid excessively for) was "Premier League tested". Maybe buying players from the bottom of the league wasn't the best "value for money"?

And the other issue is that we were looking for success, but in 3 years wouldn't have any money to replace the dross that we signed. Typically you buy players at the ages we did if you are looking for that ONE (or two) piece to get you a piece of silverware.

If you look at the table, Burnley downwards we have spent shed loads more than anyone, so with this in mind surely Mosheri can see something isn’t working.

The manager and DOF is not right.

Both need to go

In simple terms if I have the most expensive car, I should be beating at least up to Burnley standards and expect my manager/driver being able to achieve this.

Unless I was sold a dud

World class players don’t go to teams who can’t get into the champions league, can’t get out of an easy Europa league group and who haven’t won anything in 23 years. Money doesn’t change that.

This is why we go for the young talent who are out of favour. the ones who aren't expecting CL football but have loads of talent that goes to waste sitting on the bench. as i call it, the 24 and under policy. You could build such a good squad this way that has a long term projectory and every one you sell for big money brings in finances to then sign better prime players. Young manager to guide them and potentially like Spurs have done, you get yourself in a very strong position.

We have building blocks for it already. Klassen, (formerly sandro), pickford, vlasic, lookman, davies, Holgate, Kenny are all here, all young enough for a 5 year plan and can play alongside or back up to pros like coleman, walcott, Gueye, Siggurdson or (struggling to think of another to keep here...).

Point is, you lower the average age of the squad, you stop expecting the team to challenge the top clubs overnight because you spent money, you build over time and back the manager for a long term plan and anything achieved within 3 years is a bonus. You don't completely rip the squad up overnight, you stilll have your older players in there because its suicide otherwise, you sell some of the crap and phase others out, as well as manoever others out over a few years with actual replacements for them and the whole thing costs less than a walsh transfer window. for 45 million for siggurson you sign 3 players instead, might be young but all have a senior ahead of them when they first arrive. They play for their place and you have a manager who is willing to do that over simply picking his first 11.

And to prove a point, players that are a good example of this.......

Sturridge
Couthino
Ali
Alderweild
Butland
Forster
Van Dijk (celtic)
Wanyama (celtic)
Marhez
Kante

All cheap and all bought younger than our policy of established prime premier league players. So, in that respect, if we had signed the above (hpyerthetically, the future would be different players)

Pickford
Coleman
Van Dijk
Alderwield
Baines (don't think he will ever go)
Kante
Ali
Marhez
Walcott
Couthino
Sturridge (not the crock now, the 21 year old)

that would be a good team would it not? I don't mean specifically those players, i mean young talent formed and allowed to develop over time. None of those players were fantastic in their first season with their new club but they had time and space to develop and the clubs they now play for benefitted from it. In some cases they went for massive amounts but overall they are key players to their clubs (minus sturridge)

I don’t disagree, but this doesn’t seem to be our transfer policy. Perhaps you could mention this to Steve Walsh?
