Apparently they are names of “important” people in the history of meteorology as chosen by the British, Irish and Dutch weather bods (or at least Mavis [Hinds] was - instrumental in the use of computers for forecasting and Lewis is Lewis Fry Richardson - used mathematics and physics to forecast)

If we get to Mavis though, it will be a ***#* of a winter

The most used storm name appears to be "Warning". I've seen "Storm Warning" pop up loads of times.

Storm Off is another, a lot of people go to that and Storm Ustclose, lots of that going around too.
