Apparently Arteta have gone out with a wish for Moyes to add a striker to the squad. As we talk about on another thread Yakubu is on the shortlist... but if that doesn't come through. Who shall we go for?

Arteta

From Artetas continous comments about transfers, he clearly has been told by the manager/board when he signed his new contract that new players will be coming in. The problem is, if these players dont arrive, you can fully understand Artetas concern; he has been the best player for the last two years and on way too many occasions he has carried the team, so its clear he feels he needs help and its clear we need to provide it to him.

Fingers crossed that we sort out a few new players before the kick off.

Mikel Arteta is hoping Everton boss David Moyes will add another striker to the squad before the close of the transfer window.

The Toffees are currently light in the attacking department after selling James Beattie to Sheffield United and losing James Vaughan to a serious injury.

That leaves Andy Johnson and Victor Anichebe to carry the goalscoring burden, with James McFadden working his way back to full fitness.

Middlesbrough hit-man Yakubu Aiyegbeni is rumoured to be a target for Everton, who have been linked with a string of big-money signings.

Arteta is keen for Moyes to dip into the transfer market again to ensure the club are not left short up front.

"To be at the top level you need three or four quality strikers," Arteta told Sky Sports News.

"At the moment, we've two, although we've got Faddy fighting back from injury as well.

"I'm sure they're going to do something about it.

"If they don't we know everyone is going to have to lift his game again and try to become better and don't put up any excuses."

Arteta carries a lot of weight on this team now and most realise this even the gaffer. It could very well be he & Yobo have been speaking out to make a quality striker move a reality. Does everyone feel this is Earle's contribution to the club in light of the RS going bonkers in the transfer market this summer.
Wouldn't it be funny if they fell out of the top four spending like they have.

In light of how many clubs have said no to us then I dont think you can gaurantee that. But I hope your right mate.

i dont fink any manager can go into a season with the squad the way it is .. so i have 100% belief we will have someone in , in no time !!

i really wanted a striker for the Wigan game, looks like this wont happen but hopefully we can get some new firepower in for the Spurs game.

Agree totally. We need a proven striker.. sooner rather than later. During the first games we clash with some of our would be contenders for the europeanslots and we need to get results there.

Dont you remember the season where we just had Bent?

yeh but i fink expectation has completely moved since then...

we r now serious european contenders, and a possible top 4 team..

even sky sports rates us at 6th for next season, so thats good !!!

if we can progress in europe, we can make more money, so its a gamble worth taking !!

Yeah we need a striker, im not saying otherwise, but its gonna be a struggle to get one in time now.

Biggest problem is that we don't need "a" striker, we need a completing striker. A striker that can fit with and function with AJ and/or Vaughan.

I hope Berbatov crocks this season, so we can pick him up on a cheap he'd be an awesome partner for AJ.
